The Redemption of the Georgians

The Georgians have gone from dead last on aoestats.io to first since the new patch. Now, the sample size is quite small, so things may change, but as it stands now, the best 5 civs by winrate are the Georgians, Sicilians, Mongols, Hindustanis, and Romans.

I don’t really feel any particular way about it. There’s too little data to draw any conclusions at the moment.

No one is unbiased. I just thought people might be curious to see how the Georgians are doing on the new patch.

Now that people realize they’re good, I hope they take away the 50 starting food again.

Nah just revert the HP regen for Cavalry.
They will fall down naturally once they become more established in the meta, happened already a lot with a lot of different civs, especially those with “simple” gameplans.
When they are still on top end of the year we could get concerned, but atm it’s just the usual “civ that just got a huge buff” scenario.

That would make them terrible again.

Swap it like Imperial UT just like Berbers one.

Sicilians being 2nd tells how small the sample size is :joy:

True. We should come back at the end of the month and see where all the civs are.

Wait no. There are actually 148K games in the sample. So Sicilians actually dominate the sub-1000 ladder. But on 1200+ they immediately fall to 47% winrate. That is what I expected.

Looks like Georgians are busted then.

What I’m wondering about is the low winrate for the Burgundians. They’ve historically performed very well in tournaments, and I don’t think they received any major changes recently. This is quite baffling.

Closed maps yes. But on open maps they can’t afford to utilize their eco bonus in today’s fast meta, unless you get a really good map.

That makes more sense. All of the times they were used in tournaments were on maps like Arena.

It’s quite interesting that a civ so geographically and historically close to France can play so differently from the Franks and thrive on completely different maps.

We need to wait and see how they perform in future ranked games and new tournaments.
They got the Monaspa nerfed fortunately.

Now the Georgians are #3, with Sicilians and Hindustanis being #1 and 2. Mongols and Malians are #4 and 5, respectively.

The trend continues and Georgians guess what are…

With the current amazing drop off mechanic, which is 100% a feature, not a bug at all, a civ that starts with 2 drop off buildings will dominate.

If these bugs are fixed, I think Georgians will fall off a little but will still continue to “Powercreep” some civs. Even Hera said something similar for Poles (not Lithuanians).

The trend?
The trend is that they’ve already lost like 1-2 % Winrate all across.
What are you talking about?

And that even with only a small increase in pick frequency. Meaning the big chunk - dropping in power because they become more part of the meta - hasn’t even happened yet.

Just give them a bit more time to sort themselves out. I wouldn’t mind a small nerf (like bringing back the HP regen to the last patch), but I see atm no reason to immediately counternerf them. It’s the expected pattern of a civ with a unique playstyle becoming “competitive” in a meta game. It just takes a while for the meta to adapt.

If we would do something now we would miss out on the oportunity to finally observe this pattern without distubing side effects, cause in the past devs were often way too eager in mmediately nerfing new / buffed civs which then in the following often became absolute dogwater.

What? Why?

What bugs?

Trees act like hunt currently. If hunters use the drop-off command, they will go to nearby trees and gather from them as if they were deer. The Mule Cart is capable of being a drop-off for both hunt and trees, allowing this strategy to be easy for the two civs that have them. Since the Georgians have a free Mule Cart from the start, this is even easier for them.
