With the release of the second new DLC in European’civs Poland and Denmark , it means more European revolutions, maps, and new European natives and Royal houses can be added, campaign、Historical battles and Historical map
I don’t think people should get their hopes to high for new maps and Royal houses.
They also shouldn’t get their hopes up on the “soon” part either. Late 2024 probably means after AoM:R, and that game (like all modern games) will probably need a bunch of extra support after it comes out. Hopefully they’re planning for that but who knows.
Besides the obvious two main civs, We’d likely get new revolt options of Norway and Ukraine for Swedes and russians respectively. Since they’d be likely be revolt options for Danes and Poles.
And we could get Inuit minor civ since when you think about the Danish Realm, you think about Greenland.
And Iceland was part of the Danish realm before it become independant so maybe an Iceland revolution? I’m not sure about that one
AOE3 is the one in dire need of sp scenarios…just a reminder.
I don’t understand the appeal of tons of new royal houses. There are already 9 of them that fully cover every corner of an already overdone Europe while Asia and Africa have to be content with Sufi and Jesuits on every second map. Every request for them are just lists of houses without any further detail (other than Stuart, but that Scottish stuff would be better as a revolution). It seems like they were running out of ideas with just the ones we have because half the units are just standard units with a royal prefix. I’d rather they fix the royal houses before adding new ones.
I’ll be disappointed if this expansion doesn’t at least include Iceland and Greenland. Given the Scandinavian presence in the arctic, they could justify adding a few more maps there and including an Inuit minor civ.
I’d also be happy with historical battles in lieu of a bunch of maps.
It might be a little tough to accept , but the world was dominated by European empires during the 1600s to early 1900s. So when looking for inspiration for new civs to put in AOE3, European powers will inherently be the obvious and best fitting candidates for a game called Age of Empires. That doesn’t mean non-European powers shouldn’t be included, but history is a bit of a harsh mistress.
If you are so worried about EMPIRES, why arent you first asking to remove Malta, as it is the less deserving civ in-game to be called an empire?
Europeans arent the best option anymore as there are lots of them in the game already. From the GAMEPLAY perspective, as, you know, this is a GAME, more diverse civs should be made, which means the most obvious and best fitting candates will be OUTSIDE Europe. See. I can play silly semantics also ¯\(ツ)/¯
No. Just because Malta was a missstep doesn’t mean that we should just accept the lowering of standards.
though let’s be honest here, the standards have somehow been lowered even more recently with a showcase of 2 flags and zilch else.
They needed another med civ to bundle with Italy essentially. Italy was oft requested and it was probably far more efficient to do it as a med civ pack.
And morocco wouldn’t have been an option why?
They may have felt that Morocco deserves to have it’s own proper traits/age up mechanics rather than being ‘european’ in design. Devs also brought up how it didn’t quite fit in with the (sub-Subharan) African mechanics.
No they didn’t. They fit the name of the expansion to the civs they picked, not the other way around. The expansion included all of Europe so any civs there would have been fair game. They probably even considered Poland and Denmark initially.
Italy and Malta only really share proximity, and nothing is mechanically the same. It would have made way more sense to pair Italy with a civ like Prussia given their similar path to unifying their countries in the late 1800s. Give them both federal age ups and you’ve got something way more unique than just another Euro civ.
Like they could call the DLC “Old World” or “Knights of Europe” or something if it was Italians and Poles.
From a retrospect the reason Maltese were added was because it was the easiest to make, after a lot of efforts spent on Italians and Royal House units, and an one-civ dlc did not look good.
Even the theory of “they added Maltese because they have no plans in the future so they recycled whatever they have and tried to sell nostalgia” could be partly true, considering the 2 years of silence after it. The next DLC feels like a plan made very recently.
I for one am excited to see New European maps and more natives trade to Historical battle and campaigns
Malta, Mexico and USA should be removed as playable civs
Mexico should be reworked into Mayans
how do you possibly reword the entire civ into something entire else?
You’re definitely right!
This could be the perfect civs choice for the first European DLC. The State Age Up mechanic for these civs could have made the current Italians civ even more interesting.
Unfortunately they didn’t.
