Some of the tracks, particularly Battle of Tunis, sound too electronica to be truly atmospheric and ancient in the way the original soundtrack was (despite its obvious MIDI-ness). But overall a nice compilation.
Great info! Keep us informed of any current research about the game
I think that the sound palette they used is really appropriate. I mean, really feels like an improvement over the original rather than a complete overhaul. I’m glad they stood true to the essence of the fantastic original OST.
I don’t like too much.
Sometimes they’ve gone and changed up some of the notes; you’re expecting the original melody and this edited one happens Plus the feeling is very temple-like, or seems Asian for some reason.
Soundtrack is now available to purchase on Amazon!
Personally I’ll just wait for the DE
The only thing I don’t like is that I can’t find “Cave” which was the best tune from the Original hands down.
WHERE IS CAVE!? WHAT HAVE YOU NEWBS NAMED IT!?
Purchased can’t wait to replace the old music in my car
Just bought it off of Amazon - time to grab my studio headphones and relive old times
Is the soundtrack available anywhere else besides Amazon? I searched the Windows Store, Google Play and iTunes and it’s not currently available.
The tracks sound OK, but at times they’re drowning in reverb. I would tone that down a bit.
Also, I very much hope that the original AoE CD music soundtrack will be available to listen to during the game. The original CD music is one of the best soundtracks in PC gaming’s history, and has a chilling ancient and mystical feel to it that I don’t find present in the new soundtrack.
It was a big disappointment for me, and others, when Microsoft removed the CD music for the Gold Edition release of AoE - which Microsoft did because there wasn’t room on a single CD to fit the base game, the expansion, and the CD music. Microsoft should have not cheaped out and just put the CD music on a 2nd CD for the Gold Edition. But, instead, Microsoft completely removed the CD music and just left the game with MIDI music.
Anyway, I do really hope that the original AoE CD Music can be enabled as an option in AoE1R.

Same, I will even wait for a “Collector Definitive Edition Box” because I prefer having the OST at my hands, to listen whenever I want by just placing the CD on my computer and closing my eyes feeling like i am a phalanx going into battle.
Didn’t Gold edition come with a RoR “CD version” soundtrack? The UPatch has these tracks and they are better than the MIDI version, despite being the same melody. That said, the original Redbook CD audio track is the one we know! Perhaps someone official can rip those tracks into high quality mp3 or flac.

The Gold Edition that I purchased from a retail store didn’t, and so I returned it. But before I did, I called Microsoft support (I don’t recall if it was the regular Microsoft support, or if they had a separate support for their games) and talked with a support tech about it, who investigated it for me by opening a Gold Edition box and testing it out. They got back to me by saying that they also discovered that there’s no CD music for that release.
A lot of the AoE OST playlists on YouTube contain the MIDI AoE music - which suggests to me that a lot of people purchased one of the repackaged editions that didn’t contain the CD music.
This is the original soundtrack that I hope will be available in AoE1R. It has a mystical, primal feel to it that I think does a lot to bolster AoE’s character.

Amazon has an option to download the OST - I got it on my external HDD now
I’m sure you could burn it onto a CD that way (having bought it, of course).
Can’t wait!!!

I know that original sound track you listed wasn’t in the Collector’s Edition, but there were CD quality versions of the RoR MIDI tracks somewhere, as they are used in upatch. They might have used those on the CD, given it was Rise of Rome.

I could do that but come on, a original OST CD should have some AOE logo printed with trademarks You know, the fancy stuff to collect.
The original version sounds better.
I’m in love with this remix, even if it is a little long to be an in game sound track. But is more akin to what I thought the DE soundtrack would be like:
