The upcoming 'Baltic' DLC - what Home City Cards & Minor civs do we want to see?

If we just own a statue in the Danish HC that is also mermaid-themed, but not a copy of that one, can we not be affected by its copyright?

making it a parody could work but might piss off some danish people

Obviously you’ll get HC cards. Don’t expect minor civs. Possibly new revolts incoming. Maps will just be a continuation of the euro maps.

There’s your dose of reality for the day.

Thats pretty good tbh.

I would like to see more reflavouring of generically named cards for existing Civs. Example: Unique names for privateer shipments like sea dogs, Dunkirkers, Sea Beggers
Unit Buff renames such as Grands Vieux Corps and Petit-Vieux corps for France.
And more historically accurate and flavourful renames.

This is the first time they break tradition, because all the major DLCs have brought with them more maps and natives. It would be a bit disappointing. Besides being a signature feature of the game.

I wasn’t expecting much but this would be disappointing. I’d really love to see Inuit on a Greenland map and worked into some of the existing maps. They’d fit right in on Arctic Territories, Yukon, Saguenay (winter), and Alaska so that’s more tweaks to existing maps than anything new.

That would be really disappointing. Many Royal Houses are still missing, especially for many regions of Europe.

I hope they will at least add Historical Battles - in large numbers so that every European civ has its own Historical Battle on the European continent.

Also, it’s a shame that only two civs will be added in this DLC. After two years of silence they could add one more civ

At the very least, they might rework a house or two due to Winged Hussars being a rather iconic Polish unit and all.

If I am correct, it’s not because the Team doesn’t want to add more content. We know that already.

Question, in your opinion, could this be the last DLC or is there a chance that the developers will add more? I would like to know the opinion of an ex-developer.

I remain surprised that there is a LDC to be released. I will 100% not be surprised by any of the much needed ottoman buffs coming in the next DLC.

I imagine this new “DLC” was improvised, maybe that’s why they didn’t really have anything to show at that “promotional event for the saga”.

Also thanks for answering.

And historical maps/historical battles?..

Yes, but they can always add more royal houses in another European DLC (example in the Balkans)
For now in the maps of Poland we would continue using the Jagiellon and Vasa and in Denmark Oldenburg
although we must remember that in KotM they included 9 minor civs, compared to the 5-7 of the previous DLCs, so I wouldn’t feel the lack so much

Yes, 10 historical battles/historical maps would be nice
5 for Western Europe (Portuguese, Spanish, British/Dutch, French and Italians) and 5 for Eastern Europe (Germans, Swedes, Danes, Poles and Russians)

Yes, but it is now the custom to release only two civs per DLC
plus they were working on AoM Retold until now
I hope they can hire more people so we can have more DLC and content faster in the future

Yes, they will probably rework the royal houses of Jagiellon and Vasa just like what happened in The Warchiefs with Iroquois and Sioux

No factory houses

With all seriousness though, Winged Hussars and Lipkas will be cool and I look forward seeing what Denmark has.

The one thing I’d be a bit nervous about is the idea of another Gatling gun style unit from Denmark. I don’t think it’s impossible that Denmark could have Torps (which would probably be bad) and Sweden but with Gatling Guns would likely be a massive issue (I say “likely” only because it’s theoretically possible it could work. The chances seem low however and it would likely need to be balanced by some not yet known drawback).

My personal hope would still be unlocking different units depending on age up. Both civs having a few defaults are adding 1 unit with each age up. The PLC would likely mostly add cavalry (Polish, Lithuanian, or foreign units from Russia, Ukraine, and Germany) and Denmark would likely add a variety of units from Denmark and Norway. This would also serve to fill out the rest of Europe from a content standpoint. I think that would also pretty much leave Liechtenstein as the only European civ still needing to be added #LiechtensteinConfirmed (joking, in case anyone doesn’t understand the reference. With all seriousness though, this is probably the last European DLC so some representation for some other nations could be nice).

I think Denmark could be built in such a way to where they have choice over when they want holes in their roster (for example, age 3 and age 4 each have a skirm option and a Dragoon option, meaning no skirm/goon comp until age 4).

Personally, I’d go for Denmark’s eco bonus being “Age ups cost food and wood instead of food and coin but provide substantially better benefits.” That would be kinda a freebie in age 2 (still costing food but would slow you down later). The wood cost also kinda references the major lumber trade in Norway which I believe is period accurate. The Danish 700w fast fortress build could also be kinda funny as you’d need the 700w to age instead of the coin. I also think Denmark/Norway could have a large wood trickle card in age 2 like India. Assuming all of Denmark’s age ups are slow and come with goodies, that would also help balance out having a Gatling style unit as most other civs could probably age faster using food/coin and many civs have a fast age.

If this were to be the final European DLC then the only satisfactory way to represent the other nations of Europe is through Royal Houses and Revolutions. I have mentioned potentially completely new Royal Houses and Revolutions more than once.

You could even try adding European Holy Sites which so far have been the worst representation of Asian maps (Catholic Basilica, Orthodox Monastery, Protestant Settlement, Hussite Camp, Balkan Mosque, Jewish Synagogue).

I will also add that in Europe there live an interesting Finno-Ugric people - the Sami who could act like American Native Minor Civilizations.

I won’t hide the fact that if good marketing was taken care of, this DLC could be a definite sales hit - at least in relation to the other DLCs for AoE 3. PLC and Denmark-Norway ###### more emotion and interest in me than Italy, Malta, Ethiopia or USA.

Speak for yourself. Makes sense you’re polish lol.

So what if I’m Polish? Personally, I wouldn’t mind presenting Poland only as a Revolution - which would be historically accurate. On the other hand, I see huge enthusiasm among the AoE 3 fans, who are most looking forward to the Winged Hussars who, in a dramatic situation, helped the Austrians defend Vienna. Yes we already have them, but it is not the same as a fully-fledged civ based on the second largest territorially European country - weak and backward compared to its neighbors. The paradox of the PLC was that in the period of their greatest pathology and inevitable decline, it was then that they achieved their most famous military victories.

It’s about selecting civs. In this DLC you have two decent main courses. In the KotM DLC you had a main course and a re-fried old appetizer.
