I apologize in advance for any typos or English grammar errors!
I’d like to share my draft for an 8-mission campaign!
As for what will happen in each mission — whether the developers come up with something or I leave that up to you — I suggest is the overall plot concept draft:
Core concept: Fill a “blank spot” in the history of the Black family and reintroduce a cut third act— set among the Aztecs in the 17th century — through a campaign centered on Phillip Black.
Plot: Phillip assists an Aztec leader in the jungles of the Yucatán, fighting against the Spanish and the Circle of Ossus. During a naval battle, Phillip encounters pirates blocking his path; upon their defeat, they recognize him as the son of the legendary pirate Lizzie Ramsay and proclaim him their admiral.
Finale: A combined armada of pirates and Aztecs crushes the Spanish Silver Fleet, providing a logical explanation for the wealth possessed by his son, John, in the second act of the original game.
Chapter 1: Alliance in the Aztecs
Plot: Phillip Black arrives in New Spain (Mexico) while pursuing agents of the Circle of Ossus. There, he stumbles upon a Spanish punitive expedition in the process of burning an Aztec village. Phillip manages to rescue the local chieftain.
Gameplay: A fast-paced mission set in the dense jungles of the Yucatán. Players control Phillip as an explorer-hero, gathering scattered Aztec warriors—such as Eagle and Jaguar warriors — to launch guerrilla-style ambushes against the conquistadors.
Finale: The chieftain recognizes Phillip as an ally, bestows upon him a legendary weapon, and declares him his sworn brother.
Chapter 2: Phillip Becomes the Aztecs Leader
Plot: Following the death of the old chief in a treacherous Spanish ambush, Phillip Black assumes command. He must unite the surviving Nahua tribes and deliver a crushing blow to the main Spanish fortress, where the Circle of Ossus is searching for ancient relics.
Gameplay: Classic base-building. Players construct an Aztec settlement, but with a unique twist: Phillip can requisition European weaponry and mortars from his Home City.
Finale: The fortress is destroyed. However, Phillip realizes that the Spanish are amassing a massive fleet; they cannot be held back on land—the struggle must move to the sea.
Chapter 3: The Birth of a Legend (Conquering the Pirates and Hunting the Silver Fleet)
Plot: Phillip and his Aztec warriors arrive on Tortuga. To secure ships, Phillip must assert his authority and force the local pirate barons to submit—a process that includes a duel with their captain. Having earned their respect, he takes command of a unified Caribbean armada.
Phillip also encounters his two pirate brothers (perhaps even twins). According to the lore, Morgan had a four sons! Two of them is never appeared on screen, which leaves a blank slate —(you can do whatever that you want with them!) I suggest to making them a twin brothers — pirate captains! Phillip didn’t know about this and thought they had gone missing! Great idea!
Gameplay: A large-scale naval battle. The player controls Phillip’s massive pirate flagship. The objective is to intercept and board the renowned Spanish Silver Fleet (Spanish Treasure Fleet), while simultaneously sinking the galleons of the Circle of Ossus.
The connection to Elizabeth " Lizzie" Ramsay—the pirate from the first act who aided Morgan—turns everything on its head and makes the story deeply personal:
How this twist serves the narrative perfectly:
- Lizzie Legacy: Phillip is not just some random outsider arriving from the mainland to demand ships; he is Lizzie son! The Caribbean pirates blocking his path initially see him only as an ally of the indigenous people. But when Phillip crushes their vanguard and, during a duel, displays his mother’s signature fencing techniques—or reveals her iconic dirk or boarding cutlass—the old pirate barons realize exactly who stands before them.
- From Hostility to Adoration: The pirates, who moments earlier were trying to rob him, suddenly grasp that they are facing the rightful heir of the Pirate Queen. Their respect skyrockets. They don’t just provide ships out of fear; they proudly pledge their loyalty to Lizzie’s son, shouting, “Lizzie’s blood runs through his veins—he shall lead us against the Spanish!”
- A Beautiful Family Legacy: This binds Morgan’s first act to Phillip’s “lost” act with an unbreakable, canonical link. The player immediately senses the grand scale of the Black family saga.
The Finale: The gold is secured, the Circle of Ossus in the Caribbean is shattered, and Phillip Black emerges as the most wanted and formidable pirate captain in the New World, ensuring the safety of the Aztecs for decades to come.
Since the “Blood, Ice, and Steel” campaigns contain references to classic American literature
(“The Maltese Falcon”, “The Last of the Mohicans”, Westerns by “Jules Verne”)
The main antagonist and the leader of the Circle of Ossus are is name “Van Guld” a man fiercely hated by the protagonist and all the freebooters - will be from “Emilio Salgari’s novel The Black Corsair”
He serves as the governor of Maracaibo, representing the Spanish Crown. In the story, he commits a heinous act of betrayal that leads to the deaths of the Black Corsair’s brothers (the Green and Red Corsairs). It is this quest for vengeance against Van Guld that drives the entire plot of the novel.
Why he is an IDEAL fit for the leader of the Circle of Ossus in your Philip Black campaign:
Name and Status: “Duke Van Guld” sounds incredibly commanding and sinister; it fits perfectly alongside names like Alain Magnan (from Act I) or Pierre Beaumont (from Act III).
A Perfect Motive for the Circle of Ossus: In the book, Van Guld is a cruel, cunning, and vengeful ruler, willing to commit any atrocity in pursuit of power and wealth. Adapted for the Age of Empires III lore, he could be more than just a Spanish governor—he could be the Grand Master of the Circle of Ossus in the New World.
Connection to Pirates: In the novel, the entire population of Tortuga loathes Van Guld with a passion. In your mission, once Philip Black defeats the pirates and they discover he is the son of Lizzie Ramsey, they might choose to join forces with him—specifically to bring down Van Guld! The pirates will say: “That Spanish dog Van Gould has choked off the Caribbean with his galleons, and the Circle of Ossus is burning our ports to the ground. Lead us to Maracaibo, son of Lizzie!”
Duke Van Gould is an absolute masterstroke! He fits perfectly alongside John Warwick from the second act and Pierre Beaumont from the third. Together, they form an impeccable triad of sinister, calculating, and arrogant aristocrats in the service of the Circle of Ossus.
This character ties all the elements of your campaign into a cohesive whole:
Cunning, in the vein of Warwick: As the governor—or perhaps viceroy—of Maracaibo, Van Gould plays a double game. To the Spanish Crown, he is a loyal servant quelling rebellions; to the Circle of Ossus, he is a pivotal figure who exploits indigenous gold mines and the Silver Fleet to fund the restoration of the Order’s occult power.
Obsession, in the vein of Beaumont: He ruthlessly razes Aztec settlements—not merely for the sake of colonization, but because he is hunting for ancient Nahua manuscripts that might reveal the locations of other hidden Fountains of Youth or artifacts of the New World.
The perfect catalyst for the pirates of Tortuga: The filibusters’ personal hatred for Van Gould—reminiscent of the works of Emilio Salgari—explains why they would instantly set aside any past grievances with Philippe. The moment Lizzie Black’s son utters Van Gould’s name and calls for an assault on his fleet, all of Tortuga will set sail.
Such a plot point would not only provide a perfect conclusion to the 17th-century storyline, but it would also explain where his son, John Black, got the vast sums of money needed to maintain his own private mercenary army in the second act!
