Things that are missing and are essential

I’m not saying the DLC is bad but it’s poor in content, develop perhaps they don’t love the game but players would appreciate it if you added:

  1. campaigns from all the other civs
  2. diversity of fauna and biomes
  3. that the replays are saved on the PC so you can watch and rewind them whenever you want
  4. and finally reconnection system for custom games (would help in the tournaments)
  5. other civs (Spanish Incas)
  6. new interface
  7. Bug fixes every 3 weeks or sooner and not wait every 2 or 3 months
  8. clan systems
  9. eliminate input lag
  10. more colors
  11. Mongols: the ger. When you plant it, villagers hinder it and when you have buildings in a control group and unpack them, the others are disabled.
  12. AI improvements
  13. merchant selection key
  14. Better post-game stats and graphics
  15. Problems with players dodging (maybe hiding names)
  16. team games where when you surrender you can control your partner’s civ (sc2 does that when someone leaves)

I would like to hear your opinions on these things that could improve the state of the game, what could be missing?

We need a hot key for go to all sounds.

It’s in AOE3 it should be in AOE4.

I love the expansion (keep in mind there will be another this year too), but this is a solid list of things I would like. I think it would be cool if they added some premium colors like gold, black and white that could only be unlocked if you won the last 5 games

As the DLC focuses on variant Civs, one thing that can be added is Masteries for the 6 variant civs.

Another thing I know is almost impossible, but you can always dream, is finally changing the Zhu Xi’s Legacy and Jeanne d’Arc for a propper historical name.

yes it would be fine

More dark colors are missing because there are games where the colors of the units are not clearly distinguished.

same

Another list to improve the game is:

  1. Mongols: the ger. When you plant it, villagers hinder it.
  2. Mongol: When you have buildings in a control group and unpack them, the others are disabled.
  3. AI improvements
  4. visual improvements
  5. merchant selection key
  6. Better post-game stats and graphics
  7. Problems with players dodging (maybe hiding names)
  8. team games where when you surrender you can control your partner’s civ (sc2 does that when someone leaves)

Leader names for the AI like in AoE2.

In team games, I have a hard time figuring out who is who. Give each civ a pool of 5 historical names instead of- insert difficulty here- and you will be improving immersion on top of it.

As in AOE3, besides names, they have dialogues.

That would be too out of scope for a QoL feature for IV. This is a cheaper alternative that would take less time, too.

Back in day, I remember looking up who some of these people were. It helped get me interested in history.

AoEIV is the first in series without a compendium. And birds.

Birds are part of the AoE charm.

1.- As mentioned above, change Zhu Xis Legacy name or… instead of changing dynasties you could change “philosophies” like Confusionism, Taosim etc… in this case this variant will surround behind philosophy.

2.- Animal diversity

The first three seems reasonable enough.
Would take the opportunity to make a water campaing (sort of water tutorial)

Perhaps each civ’s campaign should have three or more missions teaching the basics and their strengths.
For example, playing 1 TC defensive or aggressive base, 2 TC or fast castle age, and also including how to play in water, 5 on wood, and the other villagers going to the sea to build. This way, they could combine tutorials and campaigns for each different strategy need and the rest of the campaign as normal.

Okay, list of missing items:

  1. Japanese Ashigaru Arquebusiers or Muskeeters.-
I know there isn’t much of a difference in English between an arquebus and a musket, but the fact is that this weapon was iconic for the Japanese armies of the Sengoku era, the Tanegashima Arquebus. You can change the handcannon of the ashigaru handcannoner with a arquebus, so please, make it.

  1. Japanese unique Stone Wall model.
At the moment, they use the Chinese model, which isn’t correct; their walls were different and should have resembled those of Japanese castles.

  1. Mounted Samurai attack with the blunt side of their sword
Not the sharp side. This is a visual bug or technical error, but it needs to be fixed.

I would rather have a more unique wall visuals for japanese.
Personally I feel they have enough unique units so far!

AI improvement is another huge issue for the AOEIV.
It is too hard for the beginners and too easy for skilled players.
And most of the time, AI do not respond and run away when it faces mightier army than it has and ends up getting killed without killing any of my units. That just ruins the SP experience.

What about AI Machine Learning like LLMs and ChatGPT do these days!

I remember Adam Isgreen’s statement about AI in AOEIV.
He said we will eventually get unbeatable AI in AOEIV real soon after gathering data. But so far, the AI is terrible. The most difficult AI is worse than 7 year old kid.

They need to fix the AI, add color customization, and improve modding support.

Yes. AI is pretty erratic right now in AoE IV
Hopefully the upcoming patch would deliver those needed changes to the AI
