To my limited knowledge they seem to be semi controlled by villagers who want to be ferried across the water. So, they keep being hailed and return to the coast. This is very game disrupting as you are required to spam the move button for multiple minutes to get the transport ship to reluctantly go where you want it to. Wish I recorded this one case in particular but one time i had a “ghost villager”; a villager which can’t be selected, and opponents can’t see / kill remain on the shoreline. the transport ships would all endlessly try to go to its shoreline to pick up the “ghost villager”. One of my friends on xbox also experienced something similar with their farming villager, where they would command it to go and repair the village center, but it would swiftly retask itself back to farms half a second later.

I agree with your assessment. I turned off VPS, which I assume is Villager Prioritization System or something similar. After this, I haven’t experienced this same game-breaking issue. I had assumed that direct assignments would override the automation but this seems to be very incorrect. More micromanagement but I’d rather have to micromanage than to be unable to control what they’re doing.

Hi!

I was not lucky reproing this. Do you have a savegame or replays where this issue is present?

Thanks!

Possibly, but someone would need to provide me with a guide to get those off of my XBOX.

Edit: I was able to repro something close.

  1. Pick a Norse god.
  2. Pick the Islands map.
  3. Set the VPS to something. Seems like anything.
  4. Advance to second age.
  5. Make a transport ship.
  6. Load it with a villager(s) only.
  7. Deposit that villager on an island and return the transport back to your home island. Seems to be more prevalent if the two islands are separated more where it takes more time for the ship to traverse the distance.
  8. Have that village fill up on resources.
  9. The villager won’t have anywhere to deposit the resources so will recall the transport ship.
  10. Reroute the transport ship back to the main island to attempt to load some other non-villager, such as an Ox Cart so they will have a place to deposit.
  11. The ship will keep turning around and going back to the villager’s island. If you’re unlucky, the transport ship will never make it back to the island to pick up the Ox Cart or whatever else you wanted to transport. Making more transport ships doesn’t resolve it as they all keep going to the village island. If you’re really unlucky, the villager(s) just die for reasons I can’t explain.
