They will probably be restricted heroes for most factions. I say most factions won’t even have a hero outside of scenarios.
I choose to remain hopeful in that regard. And not be doom and gloom.
I think we need an option to inactivate hero in skirmish mode.
Hopefully a separate gamemode?
adding content and keeping it fresh is great as long as it doesnt affect too much of current competitive scene

Some things don’t quite match here.
“Indians”? That civ no longer exists. Unless in the files everything related to Hindustanis goes there.
There’s also the question of where these fit into the castle. The 3K civs lack trebuchets because the heroes take this slot.
So I hope this is something unrelated like a different mode. But after the colossal screw-up that was 3K, I am concerned…
they call it indian because too lazy to change it to hindustanis
look into the file, gurjaras and other indian split civs are there. even in datamod some old stuff is still called “indians” instead of hindustanis

Now the question remains about the castle space.
I don’t think this is the case. This might just be automated from formula. I’m sure a lot of files associated with old Indians are still in the game – they are just not used by the program.
Would like to know when is this section added to the game, if there’s a way to know.
Are we gonna get infantry hero that can do whirlwind attack? Archer hero that can multi shot? Cavalry Archer hero that can attack while moving? Elephant hero can stomp and stun in area? Mangonel that can blink? Cavalry hero that can ignore collision and got damaging aura? Monk hero that can convert everything from range? Stealth supremacy villager? Flying Cannon Galleon hero? The possibility is endless now…
Most likely functions as a dummy given that resources_common\wpfg\resources\civ_emblems has these three emblems:
that go unused in the game.
Wouldn’t call it lazy. It’s not too uncommon to keep internal names as they were to make sure things don’t get messed up (which is btw what happened with the campaign bookmarks).
Even AoE 3 DE still internally referes to the Haudenosaunee and Lakota as Iroquis and Sioux:
Personally i’d welcome heroes for aoe2 but trained at a castle. for a good amount of gold

This is not aoe2. If I wanted heroes, I’ll go play WC3 or aoe3

In Dota you play as an hero that levels up, has multiple abilities and equips items.
In Warcraft 3 you start with a free hero that also levels up has multiple abilities and can also equip items but you also control human units that support them.
Still the hero is very decisive and usually the unit that wins/loses you the game. In WC3 you really need to be careful not to lose any units because that mean XP for your enemies hero.
In AoE3 you start with a hero but that hero only gets better though external means. So you ageing up, researching technologies or shipping home city cards.
Also for most civs the hero doesn’t have all that powerful abilities and generally not that strong stats. The hero is rarely the centre of your army.
For the 3 Kingdoms the Hero unit is a very expensive unit that is unlocked in the Imperial Age. They cost more as many Imperial Age UTs do and definitely offer less value then most Imperial Age technologies do.
Most matches will end before a player could even afford a hero unit. I wonder if they will ever really be used in ranked matches at all.
They seem more like a flex that you can do when you already won the game and just want to destroy the enemy in style.
But in the end I agree. Heros should be something you can turn on/off in the lobby (off in ranked) and everyone has one.
They can also be named after real life people even if they didn’t live at the same time, we already have whole civilisations that didn’t exist at the same time anyway.
As far as I know, the button of the heroes of the Three Kingdoms is located in the Trebuchet’s position.
For other civs, you have no more slots in the Castle… unless you want to move the Trebuchet to the Siege Workshop.
Or move the Heroes to the TC or something like that.
Or change the Cuman Mercenaries tech to just spawn the 5 Kiptchaks as garrison when the Castle is complete. That would make this tech a little more interesting and free up the button in the UI for everyone.
Or make people research their Imperial Age UT or Elite Unique Unit first to unlock the Hero in the same slot.
This is exactly neeeeeeeeeeded regardless of the hero issue.
I have suggested it for long, far before this DLC.
People will always benefit from it. Even they forget their Cuman allies have researched this UT, the Castles can fire more arrows.
