As I climb the ladder, the games are getting more and more chaotic and there’s more stuff happening on the map at the same time. Now the under-attack notifications are getting so numerous that they’re basically just noise and I would probably have a better play experience if I’d disable them completely.
But there’s no reason it has to be this way. Other RTS games handle these notifications much better, because they’re more discernable on the minimap, they have a less ear-splitting sound, but mostly because irrelevant things do not trigger them over and over and over and over again.
Here are the main issues that need to be adressed.
- Units being attacked that are ON SCREEN (!) trigger the under-attack notification. Why?
- A tower attacking a house or another random building will periodically trigger a notification. A building attacking another building should only be able to trigger a notification once and then be ignored by the system.
- Units attacking another unit will often trigger notifications multiple times. For example, if your fish gets attacked by fire galleys and you run away, every time the fire galleys catch up and get one hit in, you will get a new notification. The cooldown for a single unit triggering a notification should be significantly longer.
I don’t know if the argument is “It has always been this way, why shouldn’t it remain terrible?”, but I think almost everyone would have a better experience if they wouldn’t get reminded all the time that a random tower is attacking their house and then miss the raids on their farm economy.
I tried to find mods to change the under-attack notifications, but I found only that it is apparently not moddable. Making it moddable would also be a large improvement.
