Why not but between regional unit skins, more architecture styles, some civs finally having the right language for them… it’s quite low on my list of priorities.
As they are all at the same place in the castle it would be harmless.
IIRC in SWGB each civ had 3-4 UTs and not all in the castle, each with unique icons. To compare.
swgb has been around and kept updated by their fan team since forever
this game has way too many civs for it, x2 for UT would mean over 100 icons to memorize. unless they can make them different but still somewhat similar then i am against it
there are way more important things they should focus on, like fixing bugs thats been reported for years
It indeed would be a lot of icons but all at the same exact spot nicely in the castle. It wouldn’t cause any more issues than each UU having an unique icon (now doubled by the different skin for the elite). I mentionned SWGB as it spreads UTs everywhere in the tech tree, making it less identifiable which tech is supposed to be unique to the civ.

Well, there is multiple ways of looking at it.
Yes, it would be cool and also more unique to have images that represents the really special thing.
But, then, it will maybe make them too unique, as in “remembering what all icons are for”, as the base purpose is still shared for everyone. I mean, every castle got unique techs at castle and imp age, all doing special things.
Memory wise, well, more icons means more to download, memory is precious, but it’s not like if it was tons of frames, just two icons per civ, but still, it’s binary data.
Now, balance wise, imagine we have icons for everyone, and the devs needs to change a civ unique tech. This would means not just balance testing but also artistic budget, time is money, money spent on doing new arts is money not spent on balance. Small impact yes, but still, impact.
One thing that can be usefull could be some variation of the icon for unique techs, based on the style of benefit it grants. Like, military bonus, eco bonus, mechanic alterations (delay explosion), etc.
Conclsuion, yes it would be cool, but I think it’s not how unique tech should be. The way they are actually, with a silver and a gold crown, represent the idea of leader making changes in the way the civ does things. It’s abit like reform, decree, etc. And balancing wise, it’s better to not have to redo icon everytime something changes.
So, maybe regional style icons ? Like, crown type based on architecture type. That, I’d buy the idea, but then, it would have no real point so it’s litterally asking the devs to invest money in something that will only be cool for people liking historical logic.
