I recall MANY years ago, there was a website with each civ broken down with everything the game had to offer, including unit stats and how to counter, etc. I’m finding myself building random units and have NO clue what to do right now.
If it carries a big pointy stick and walks on two feet, it is probably a counter to things bigger than it is.
If it fires projectiles and walks on two feet, it probably counters that thing with the stick.
If it rides a pony, it’s probably a counter to that arrow thing.
If it is a little guy with a little sword and shield, it’s probably a meat shield for other units and counters buildings.
If it’s called a bombard cannon, it counters everything.
I think Grubby made an in-depth video about it, I’ll check when I get home.
Do you mean like the Fandom Wiki? Or a site custom developed for the game?
play ig with no ai, make unit. look at their stats, think of what they mean.
Bonus against cav ? probably a unit meant to answer against cavalry right ?
Big amount of damage, no bonus, not great HP pool and no armor ? i guess it’s a canon glass.
Great damage out put, great HP pool and great armor but categorised as a cavalary and heavy armored unit ? you got your knight ! Weak against anti-cav and anti-heavy but strong against everything else.
That’s how you get the basic idea of a unit. then you experiment and limit test to learn how and when you can use those units without loosing your tempo. (ex: passing age is not always the thing to do it can be an hinder to your economy and your oppenent may send their army to your base, without the ressource you spend you’ll be in a bitter position even though you got age advantage).
In short analyse the stats you see IG in a solo game you started. Allowing you to experiment everything you want. Other POV can help you but the best way is to learn by yourself IMO to avoid plain mimics
