Unpopular opinion: I like Jeanne d'Arc, reminds me of Warcraft 3

I used to love playing Warcraft 3 with hero units that would level up.

You could get your Blademaster, Archmage etc up to level 10 and give them hero points with unique abilities.

We should get a few more variant civs with unique hero level up units. Would add a great dynamic to the gameplay.

I think that the concept of the variants (without commenting on the criticism of the names of these variants) aims to evoke different styles of play reminiscent of different RTS games, and I believe that’s the path they want to follow. However, the name should be that of a civilization.

Liking Jeanne now that we see the civs is actually not a terribly unpopular opinion. While there was a ton of hating on the civ before, I have been pleasantly surprised by it’s gameplay and the general reception I have seen online in the past few days of the DLC has been overwhelmingly positive.

I don’t think having a hero-focused civ should become a common thing as I think that would take away a lot of this civ’s uniqueness.

Currently the civ looks too strong. But given its implementation, it is properly named. Jeanne is imperative to the progression success of this french variant.

Its more involved than a mere MOBA but it’s th closest thing imaginable that still fits in our genre.

Yeah i love all the new civs and variants so far!

My only small concern since seeing the gameplay video is that zhu xi may be a bit op nd overshadow china.

The other ones seems to bring enough differentiation

I like a lot of things about Jeanne d’Arc the concept is good going from a villager to a monarch via a heroes journey seems to be done well. being able to summon companions is good too might be better if she could summon named heroes like La Hire. one of her abilities can kill a group of archers way to quickly though and being able to summon a cannon is just op. The last thing is she gets a hand cannon with her last upgrade and can turn into a mounted siege weapon.
Things I would change is leaning more into a religious and buffing role and less into a direct combat one woman mounted mangonel role. Making her able to pick up relics, giving her banner once she upgrades to woman-at-arms/hunter the banner looks more ornate with each upgrade to her. Removing the ridiculous hand cannon.

From what we have seen from the limited amount of pro games is that Zhu Xi is probably overpowered and will get some nerfs. So far they have been the only civ to beat regular civs in the casted games I believe (despite the difference in experience).

Jeanne reminds me a lot of an AoE 3 explorer just with the difference that you can upgrade her. I like it but find it a bit weird that this concept is only used for a single civ. Imo it would’ve been better as a separate game mode.

I do not think it’s an unpopular opinion, on the contrary, the vast majority seems to be very hyped with the Jeanne d’Arc civ in various places, such as Twitch and Reddit.

As for myself, I cannot wait to finally try this hero out tomorrow!

Agree, it would take away the uniqueness. I wouldn’t mind to see a few more heroes though.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple heroes like the Khan or the King, but I would prefer not seeing more hero-focused civs unless it was done drastically different somehow.

Yes, adding more heroes but they work different somehow would be very interesting.

Only for variant civs though.

Not for new civs.
