With the introduction of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (PLC) and the Danish civs in game, there are several potential historical battles that could be included. Here are a few possibilities:
Battle of Kircholm (1605) - This battle between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the forces of Sweden could be featured. It was a significant victory for the PLC and demonstrated the effectiveness of their cavalry tactics.
Battle of Klushino (1610) - Another important battle involving the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, this conflict saw the PLC defeat the forces of Russia. It marked a turning point in the Polish-Muscovite War and solidified the Commonwealth’s influence in the region.
Battle of Copenhagen (1659) - This battle, part of the Second Northern War, could be included to showcase the military prowess of the Danish forces. It was a key engagement between Denmark-Norway and Sweden and resulted in a Danish victory.
Battle of Vienna (1683) - While not directly involving the Danish or Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Siege of Vienna by the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent relief of the city by the Holy League, which included Polish forces, could be featured as a significant historical battle.
These are just a few examples, and there are many other historical battles that could be included to highlight the military history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Denmark.
Which battles do you think will be used to teach us how to play these new civs?
I think that if the Devs were encouraged to make a DLC with campaigns for Aoe II, even making CANON fandom scenarios such as the “Taking of Constantinople”, they should also be encouraged to make a DLC for Aoe III but with historical campaigns similar to those of the original game:
So that once and for all we have as Canon a campaign where you play as Napoleon in Europe, and that the scene of Napoleon vs England in the Opening at least makes sense in campaigns (Which was never seen in the campaign because the first campaign is fictitious).
Or a campaign where you play as Cortez or Pizarro against Aztecs and Incas.
They could also do a campaign about the Netherlands’ 80-year war, or for the new DLC, about Sweden’s expansive campaign against Denmark and Poland and even against Russia.
There are a lot of things to produce that aren’t 1-level historical scenarios, and I think they would be well received.
They could also transform some historical maps into scenarios by reusing the unique mechanics. For example:
Great Turkish War - Vienna
Russo-Turkish War - Sevastopol
Great Northern War - Poltava
Napoleonic War - Austerlitz
Italian War - Pavia
Eighty Years War - Leiden
Thirty Years War - Lutzen
The Deluge - Jasna Gora
The maps need to be tweaked to less symmetric though.
I think these could be the best choices if only 3 new Historical Battles were added. Besides, the most epic for Battle of Vienna (1683) Historical Battle would be playing Germans civ, who bravely defend Vienna against the Ottoman army until suddenly the Winged Hussars arrive under the command of Jan III Sobieski.
Siege of Zbarazh (1649) could also be an interesting Historical Battle - since the outcome of this battle is indecisive, it could be great for a cooperative game. It was the Poles defense of Zbarazh during the Cossack-Tatar siege.
I like these three, Klushino perhaps more because it was the only time that a European country conquered Russia in all of history…
Unlikely, it is already a historical map…
Yes, in fact Pizarro is in the scenario editor…
Unlikely, it is already a historical map…
Most likely, they will add new historical maps from the 18th and 19th centuries (since those from the 16th and 17th centuries are already in the game), uniting several historical battles together:
War of the Spanish Succession (1700-1715)
War of the Polish Succession (1733-1738)
War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748)
Seven Years’ War (1756-1763)
Bourbon War (1778-1783) (European theater of the American Revolution)
I once ported AoE2 Lepanto to Wars of Liberty, but they removed Rodeleros from the barracks and then an update screwed up all scenarios created before the update, including their own Historical Battles
Edit: I also ported 90% Moctezuma 1 from AoE2 DE to AoE3 DE, but got lazy
