Upcomming homecity structures for Denmark in the "Baltic DLC"

Today i want to talk about potential buildings that could populate the homecity for Denmark/Danes/Danish in the upcomming DLC. Obviously the homecity of choice is Copenhagen, northern Europe’s largest city for most of the period and an imperial capital with connection to Asia and the new world.

As i see it there are 2 options available here.

Option 1 is the typical “random buildings clumped together in a small area”.

and perhaps the more interesting

Option 2 Basing the entire homecity around the (artificial) island of Slotsholmen.

This is a picture of it in 1674, its the large island in the top with bridges connecting it to the rest of the city.

Another image taken somewhere before 1745, after which copenhagen castle was replaced with the modern Christiansborgs slot.

To this day it is the de facto capital of the country, with the parliament, several important ministry’s and the royal library all being placed on the island. Though obviously we will only here discuss the contemporary buildings.

christianborg

A modern satellite map with some circles.

For dock the option here would be what is today the “library garden”, it used to have access to the harbor and would be a place where ships would be moored and prepared for journeys with the surrounding buildings having things like gunpowder, rigging and sails stored for ships. On the map above it would be the Blue circle. Sadly this part of the island has long since been replaced by said library but you can see it in some of the historical maps i showed.

For the shipment of crates, villagers etc. I have selected Christiansborg itself, a very large castle and the seat of government. it is the red circle on the map.

For the military building i have chosen Christian 4.s “Bryghus”, which was build as a part of the cities fortifications in the early 1600s. It is green on the map.

the option for buildings will like with other european civs be filled by a church, in this case Christianborgs slotskirke which was constructed in the early 1800s. There are other earlier options available but i think the more modern architecture would be fun.

As for economic buildings there is really only 1 options: Børsen. It sadly recently got burned down during renovations but i would love to see the building in the game. It is yellow on the map.

So this is my list if i had to keep it just to the island of Slotsholmen.

as for other buildings

for other buildings i wont include pictures but there are a few notable options.

  1. Amalienborg, built around the middle of the 1700s, it is today the royal castle and residency.

  2. Vor frue kirke, a somewhat modern church in line with the church mentioned earlier, though earlier churches has likewise existed on this place. This is one of the more famous churches and has been used for coronations and royal weddings.

  3. Rundetårn, an observatory tower in the city.

  4. Eigtveds pakhus, a series of buildings used for storage of goods coming in from the overseas empire and trade, 1 of the more significant buildings in relation to the colonial empire.

  5. kastellet, a large starfortress guarding the entry way into copenhagen from the north, honestly this is probably a stretch when it comes to buildings possible to add.

  6. Elefanten & mastekran, if you have ever played Denmark in WOL you should be familiar with this as “mastekran” was used for the danish unique dock building. This is really just a small part of the western islands which used to be the base and construction area for the danish-norwegian navy.

  7. Rosenborg slot, a relatively small castly located more inland as oppose to most of the buildings we have talked about here. If you want a more naturally sized castle this is a pretty obvious option.

Love the idea. Since DE it seems the new devs have been trying to make the Homecities look more like actual cities and less like hodgepodges of iconic buildings smashed into the same space, so this may actually very well be how Copenhagen looks, it’d be unique and very appropiate to boot.

Yes, it could be like a mix between Stockholm and Amsterdam… Warsaw is Poland’s homecity, so it would be like the homecity of the Germans or directly like the Warsaw of The Napoleonic Era mod…

I know the Little Mermaid statue was built in the early 20th century, but Andersen’s own achievements are within the timeline, so I’d still like to see a Little Mermaid statue in the customization options in addition to statues of kings or explorers .
