User Manual

Hi everyone,

Is there a user manual?

For example, in the customization screen, there is a choice of “Victory Type” which defaults to “Standard”. There should be a user manual that explains which are all the “Standard” victory conditions.

I only know that there is more than one standard victory condition because I played the original many years ago and I read the manual. I shouldn’t have to own the original AoE so I could check its manual for this information. AoE:DE should have its own updated manual.

I miss the times when the games came in boxes with a printed manual. Nowadays, apparently, not even a digital manual.

Cheers

Standard victory condition is one of the following:
Build and defend a wonder for 2,000 years
Military conquest
Acquire and hold all ruins on the map for 2,000 years
Obtain and hold all artifacts on the map for 2,000 years

Did you look in the game folders for a copy of the game manual? I agree that if it’s not available in the game folders, it should be added. However, there are a lot of resources available online for the game for answers to your questions.

Did you have any other questions about the game?

Agree even if i believe you can find those information on diverse website, it would be good to have an user manual on the website.

No such thing in my folder

Windows says:

Luckily, there is a manual:

And a help file  :

Attached is a copy of the manual for the original Age of Empires without the Rise of Rome Expansion courtesy of Age of Empires Heaven here. It includes a lot more information about all the settings in game.

Thank you @rhrmn. You’re very kind. I managed to dig up the old AoE box and found the old manual. Reading it again.

I did!.. without success.

Exactly.

My reasoning is that I only know about all the configuration details because I have the printed manual. But… what about newcomers who are playing the game for the first time? They shouldn’t have to look for a third party website to find the desired information. Since it isn’t a free game, the developer should provide a manual–in a PDF file or online on this website–for the paying user. Anything less is sloppiness.

Not at the moment, thank you for asking.

The game need a wiki.

I miss the game manuals, for the eviorement and in-game tutorial levels, user manuals become history.

Yes, DE is different. Well, all of MS game is based on its community, MS don’t love their childs much.

No manual? Typical. This edition about as good as the very first AoE, when we had 56k RAM and 300 X 700 video.
Been trying to play the tutorial game that barely functions. Must be government/unionized workers as they don’t do what they are told.
We have to remember. We paid to DOWNLOAD the program. We did not pay for one that works.

Yes, a manual would be GREAT to have. Also for the scenario editor. There are some powerful editor shortcuts such as Ctrl G and Ctrl S, which allow you to place items off the grid or even on top of each other. These give designers a lot of extra freedom to create new visual effects, almost like “painting with the editor”. These cool new features do not seem to be documented anywhere. I frankly would never have found out if someone at AoE Heaven hadn’t told me. I wonder what other cool stuff is there in the editor. A manual could speed up this learning curve.
