I’m new to this tool and all I’m trying to do is modify the defaultvp file to change increase the timer on KOTH. I’ve tried multiple methods I’d think would work but I have no idea how to do it. I know you can’t edit in the program itself so you have to extract the specific file. And I know which line in the file to edit once I have it as a JSON file. But then what? What do I do with it and where do I put it back?
I downloaded latest version, also all the updated .net stuff, but the .exe resource manager file won’t open. Not even the updater . Click a thousand times doesn’t work.
Clear the “VladtheJunior” folder in “users/name/AppData/Local” (maybe)
Mine says I am missing the .Net Frameworks. Does ayone have a link for that
hi everyone,
i just found my post in this thread by accident (i didn’t remember when I made it or where exactly). however, after several attempts, i managed to get aoe 3 de (latest version 15.59076) to reread some test mods
i can’t explain why, on aom retold, if i follow the procedure mods\modname\game\data\gameplay\proto.xml it works perfectly, but if i follow the same procedure on aoe 3 de, unfortunately, it doesn’t mods\modname\game\data\protoy.xml
i’ve tried several times, but a few years ago i finally succeeded (i even tried downloading mods directly from the game menu to verify the correct path)
i’d like to understand where, and if, i did something wrong. for this test, i reset the population occupation of the villagers directly from the protoy.xml file
- i completely extracted the original (backed up) data.bar file using resource manager v0.7
- i manually edited the protoy.xml file
- i converted the file back to .xmb
- i recreated the entire data.bar file from scratch and inserted it in place of the original
once I tested the dutch (one of my favorite civilizations), a new game gave me a serious 0/0 pop count. so, is this cumbersome procedure correct? why doesn’t it work in mods/local, but if I tap aom retold, it does?
a big thank you to anyone who answers
lorenzo
Thanks for your work! Have a need to unpack some BARs and the previous/OG build doesn’t seem to work too well. Running 0.7 without any issues.
Please, use additive modding.
Replacing all the files and the .bar file is an outdated modding method that breaks with every update and makes the mod incompatible with other mods.
Too many AoM modders are still using this method, and it’s pretty frustrating for users to have to deal with these kinds of mods.
Here is the official guide to additive modding. It also works for AoM RE (at least in most cases):
https://support.ageofempires.com/hc/en-us/articles/360062106732-Additive-Data-Mods
Regardless of the method you use, it’s no longer necessary to replace the .bar files in the game folders.
There is a “mods” folder, and two subfolders: “local”, and “subscribed”. Simply create a new folder in “local” with the name of your mod and place the files you want to modify inside it (following the folder structure). You can find the location of these folders by clicking on a button in the in-game mod window (Tools > Mods).
But the best way to understand how it works is to download a mod that’s similar to what you want to do and see how the modder did it.
