Villagers AOE2

Dear All,

A suggestion to workout on Villagers design for each civ, I loved what they did for Monks and Castles. I just hope they will do it for villagers as well.

Moved to AoE 2, as you accidentally posted it in AoE 1

The problem with this is that each villager job is actually a different unit altogether so you would need a model for villager and every job a villager can do. As of the addition of Oysters and Pastures that is a whopping 13 different models for villagers needed for every civ or region

Over time every units should have regional skins.

The male model is already there with the trade carts so why not.Id like to see the meso or african villagers get changed as a test.

That would be a lot of sprites to print but the model itself only need being made once, then copypasted with different tools in hand and then copying the existing animations.

The problem os you need to assign the model to each sprite or you’re gonna have shapeshifters

That’s still less work than having to remake the model from scratch. And the devs already delivered with elite UU skins and castles (which includes destruction animations)

I’d really like to see regional Villagers in the game, more than any other regional skins. Actually, we already have the first regional set (Chronicles civs), just not in Ranked. They gave the existing models different clothing and hairstyles.
After the addition of so many additional graphics for existing units and buildings, I’m kind of expecting Villagers getting the treatment in the not so distant future, too.

Oyster Gatherers and Herders reuse Gold Miner and Shepherd sprites, respectively. Still, quite a few models, but it’s possible.

Oysters and Pastures don’t have unique animations though

Perhaps as a start the villagers from chronicles can be given to indian and khmer building set civis.giving them chinese villagers similar to the trade carts would be odd.

  • EU (European) - European civilizations and Cumans; also used by all civilizations prior to update 56005

Im pretty sure Berbers should look African even if they didnt build that way

Vietnamese will also look better with chinese looking villagers.

Ideally khmers burmese malay and indians should have its own trade cart and own villagers.Even the aoe trade cart is a better fit than the current one.

Berbers are generally lighter skinned than subsaharan Africans

And on the topic of regional skins, they should really retexture the Native American monk. He has lighter skin than the Franciscan/Generic monk:

Gurjaras and Hindustanis wouldn’t fit this I don’t think. Tatars could maybe get something else as well.

A middle eastern style would fit Indian civs better than an east asian style, but ideally India should have its own style.
