Villagers build walls in nonsensical order

I’ve experienced this twice today. Villagers build the wall from left to right, then run all the way back to the left to do the first piece, then all the way back to the right to do the last piece. They should build the wall pieces in order.

That happens often to be honest, to me they do it all the time, I must make sure that I oversee them to not leave gaps.
