Thanks for participating in this week’s poll! :white_circle::black_circle:

I really dislike the current format of mappoll. I really wish that the mappool was either bigger then 6+3 so that we could play the maps we like instead of the maps that we least dislike. It really is a heart break when you see that the upcomming map pool dont have the kind of map you really enjoy. And you know there will be 2 weeks until you can enjoy playing AOE2 ranked again.
At the same time there is a problem with people dodging (alt + f4) to only get the maps they like. I admit to doing it my self. So i propose why not just give people the amounts of bans they like, and then if they only want to play 1 map, let they stay in q for games until kingdom comes or they find someone who wanna play it with them.

Because being able to skew and optimize the ranked queue so much defeats its point entirely. What’s the point of having a varied competitive environment, if the leaderboards are filled with people who spam a single water map with vikings or only play nomad. If you want to skew your game, you’re already free to do so without having it completely ruffle competitive rankings.

I will like this map pool a lot. I don’t know what to favorite!

Here is how you could optimize the ranked ladder 1v1 and team:
Do a separate Ladder for competitive Maps (Arabia, Lombardia, Four Lakes, Ghost Lake, Highland etc.) and one for “special needs” maps like Arena, Black Forest, Megarandom, Migration, African Clearing, Fortress, Nomad etc.
Putting them both together won’t work because ppl who want to play the competitive (i.e. tournament) maps will try to avoid those special needs maps as best as possible and vice versa. Players who achieved their rating on specials needs maps wont stand a chance against equally ranked players on competitive maps.

What competitive rankings? This is team game ranking, even if it was in a decent state it would never be used for tournament seeding (excluding low elo tournaments).
The point of ranked queue is to provide well balanced team games. If someone can have really high Elo playing just nomad then his elo is true to his skill.

Add standard queue, 15 mins treaty queue and 30 mins treaty queue like AoE3. Add a nomad queue too if necessary. Let each queue has its own maps set. Bring walled maps to treaty maps set and nomad maps to nomad maps set. Leave only land maps and hybrid maps to Standard maps sets.

I dont think you can easily agree on ‘competitivemaps’ and ‘special needs’. If i look at your list, i think maps like Arena and Nomad are competitive, but you put them under ‘special needs’. I would put a map like highlands under ‘special needs’, but you put them under competitive maps. Also other maps are discutable and pretty much depend on the preference of the users. I can see lovers of BF argue that is is competitive. I dont think so.

This just shows there isnt an easy agreement on what maps is part of which category.

The whole point of ranked matchmaking in RTS games is to let players measure their skill in a varied competitive environment, in an unskewed setting where they have to compete in a varied map pool and against varied matchups, without having too much control over the match they’re getting into. That’s the whole point why there are either no map bans or very few map bans in RTS ranked queues. Using rankings for tournament seeding is irrelevant, and a plus if it can be done.

oh man, i really loved amazon tunnel, such a great map. such a bummer you cant play the maps you like. if the whole ranked purpose is to mix things up, then why not just introduce a “casual” gamemode with a seperate rank for matchmaking? Or just have all the popular maps that are not in the ranked pool automatically in the casual pool so all maps are available to play.
