And once they lack armour, they can have fast troops. Hersirs sometimes are faster than cavalry…
The speed gap between cavalry and Infantry is not that big in AoM.
An Huskarl with 5.0 is not much slower then a Hippeus with 5.5.
With Hall of Thanes they even match the speed.
You don’t even need to introduce new units to make a no cavalry no siege civ.
Dao Swordsman, Ge Halberdier, Wuzu Javelineer and Fire Archers in Classical Age.
Huskarl, Fanatic and Destroyer in Heroic Age.
Would be enough to counter all units and even be decent enough against buildings.
I agree with everything but it’s simply just cooler to see someone riding my a mount. It was a status thing very often and sometimes
It’s just really cool to have a full army of mounted “knights” like the recently added tiger cavalry. Especially with the new retold animation where it FEELS more like they are moving faster.
ChillyEmpire just released a god/minor god concept and I like that he didn’t add cavalry but in form of a mythical jaguar rider unit. Pretty cool idea IMHO
I don’t agree. I think if you like cavalry you should simply not play the Aztecs like you don’t play Norse if you like Archers.
Making the civilisations unique is a core aspect of AoM. It would be weird if AoM would make the Aztecs less unique as AoE2 or AoE3 did.
Fair enough. I personally think there are plenty other ways to make a civ unique and since we now have fantasy caravans I would welcome more fantasy and less “historical accuracy” with open arms. (I didn’t say Mayan/Aztec should have standard horse cav btw just to make this more clear)
The idea of jaguar rider is great but maybe for a hero, not a simple rider unit
Are Jaguar Riders part of Aztec mythology? If not then they should not be in the game.
It’s Age of Mythology not Age of Fantasy.
Correct. It’s Age of mythology not age of empires 1,2,3.
Isis vs Skadi crossover in the forum.
I picked Olmecs cause if they’re going to just lump all Mesoamericans into one civ they could at least be unique about it and place them under the Olmec civilization since they were like the Sumerians of their part of the world. Realistically it’s going to be the Aztecs since they are top and the Mayans as another Mesoamerican DLC. Sumerians cause they would be another Bronze Age era civilization that would compliment the Egyptians, and the Celts as the third cause…I could.
@Skadidesu To be honest mythology and fantasy are a bit related, look at the sort of wooden cows the Chinese use as caravans, if that’s not fantasy I don’t know what is .
I wouldn’t be shocked to see a guy brandishing a spear and riding a jaguar based on this observation
There was supposed to be a hippo-riding Egyptian by the name of Mnevis in vanilla AoM.
On a separate note… do you think the devs have already commenced work on the next DLC or not?
Hopefully we will see him as a character in the future!
I imagine they have roughly mapped out all the Gods, GPs and Myth Unit specials. Otherwise it becomes too hard to ensure balance and variety down the line.
The wooden ox is a real thing though. Based on mechanical devices that were likely actually build in ancient China.
Jaguar riders only exist in complete fantasy setting. Jaguars are not big enough to ride on them.
And if they were a thing they would be a myth unit, not a human unit.
And if it’s a myth unit do you even need someone riding on it?
That was supposed to be a campaign hero not a generic unit though.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a campaign hero riding on a mythical jaguar.
I’m pretty sure they already started working on the 2nd DLC a while ago. The assets for Immortal Pillars were almost all already in the first trailer half a year ago so the team working on that part of the game has likely already long moved over to the next DLC.
Now that it’s completely released I assume almost the entire team has switched over to the next DLC with some people working on bug fixes and balance patches inbetween.
That makes this thread and it’s poll quite moot if I dare say.
We had the same kinda discussions here for years, even before they announced AoMR.
This is not the first poll about what civilisations should be added and it won’t be the last.
Let’s also hope the next DLC won’t be the last.
Correct. It’s not the first poll and it won’t be the last it’s also quite certain that they already are working on the next civ.
Hm… I think you see this too… “butthard” I think is the right word.
- Mythological Jaguar creature too small for a mount? No argument. There are animals different shapes and sizes. Don’t look at it as a random real life Jaguar.
- of course we are talking about myth units here…
- of course there can be someone riding on it. It’s a type of fantasy. (You never imagined yourself riding a giant sabretooth or wolf? Cause I did as a kid and teenager) also Valkyries are in fact riding a horse and are mythological units. So why not? Don’t tell me you didn’t think of that.
/ I also want to make clear that and I bet many others who like this idea don’t want to make AoM to a high fantasy game. But AoM shouldn’t also be just AoE with mythological creature.
Also I want to make clear we should know at this point since the very first AoM devs like to be more creative and try out things than being not completely mythological accurate. (For example I could see scorpion man as a myth unit for Egypt cause of the movies scorpion king and the mummy series) so why not? I personally am passed the point to look at AoM and say “yes that’s mythological/historical accurate.” And maybe that’s a good thing. Embrace the fantasy a bit.
“The Road to El Dorado” will probably be pulled a lot.
With the giant stone jaguar…
If that’s the case then the question is why does someone even have to ride it?
There are a lot of myth units in the game that are just animals without a rider.
But they are a very important part of Norse mythology. I don’t think that Jaguar riders are a thing in Aztec mythology, are they?
If they are then I’d be perfectly with with them being myth units in the game, just not generic units please.
