War Elephant -- Use another model

The current War Elephant are pretty much the same from AoE3, which works sure, but they really don’t look like proper Elephants. They’ve got weird proportions and look a bit pudgy in the wrong places.

More importantly, we already have “better” elephants featured in AoM as actual animals. They look far better and more natural, and I find it rather odd that they weren’t used for the actual War Elephant model. And so, naturally, I’m requesting that we make that change.

Two different breeds of elephant mate. The wild ones are savannah elephants, not used in warfare. The ones ridden are African forest elephants, slightly smaller, which were used in warfare

Except, no, this is the AoE3 model which is attempting to show an Asian Elephant. And even in trying to do so, it just looks inaccurate. The model is too rounded and had squarish proportions, awkward animations and just looks dated.

While our new model does resemble an African Elephant more, it still looks far more like the forest variant than the reused AoE3 model.

You don’t have to invent some excuse for the Devs. That’s not what’s going on in this image.

Jeez, no need to lose your temper over polygons….
While I admit it’s most likely the reused AOE3 model (I can’t say 100% as I I’ve compared side by side), and I also admit the new model is way more textured, the AOE3 model isn’t exactly a faithful depiction of an Asian elephant - in fact, it looks like a cross breed of Asian and Forest. Forest elephants are shorter and stockier than their southern counterparts. So the fact that they reused an awkward Asian elephant model which looks akin to a Forest Elephant isn’t that bad as - technically - it’s accurate as southern savannah elephants were never used in warfare.
Also I’m not toooo sure it is a reused asset - I’ll have to double check as if my memory serves me correctly, AOE3 elephants didn’t feel that large compared to regular units while Egyptian elephants in AOMR certainly feel massive. Though that’s from memory alone so I could be wrong

Sorry if my tone came across differently, but my temper is just fine. Either way, I’d imagine the model made for AoM is far better fitting than the one for AoE3. I’d like to stress that the AoE3 model is in general a bad depiction of an Elephant.

This becomes evident looking at it yourself, with stubby, almost perfectly cylindrical limbs positioned in a very geometric squarish distance from each other at the joint. The whole body segment is also awkwardly round, unlike the famously curved shape that tends to make an Elephants torso. The face looks more like a kids idea of an Elephant than a actual Elephant and the texture quality is also poor.

In other words, it’s just a bad model. Sorry to say, but it is.

The new version is a far better depiction of an actual Elephant, and being an African one makes more sense for the Egyptian either way as well.

It’s not the same model as the AOE3 War Elephant. That elephant is clearly an Asian elephant as it has smaller ears. This one has large ears like an African elephant. It looks fine to me, other than its lack of defined feet.

Elephants are not that chubby and rounded. They could perfectly use, as the op says, the same model as the wild elephants you can hunt. Their model is way more realistic.
