Adding water trade as an option, similar to Age of Empires II, would enhance gameplay. Minor water gods like Oceanus, or Major god like Poseidon could provide small bonuses for this feature. It doesn’t have to be better than regular caravan trade but atleast gives option for water maps.
can you close my this old thread, I couldn’t find this part before, thank you
I would like it to because it’s the original way of trading in the first Age of Empires game. But i think if you don’t want to destroy the AoM tading system you should add ‘‘coast settlements’’ because in AoM you trade from a marketplace with a Towncenter in AoM. Not just marketplace to marketplace.
They already added village center so coast center could work but to prevent keep trading style similar, it could cause more balance problem. Water trade can be unique from regular AoM market-to-TC system. Or regular docks can upgraded like “fortfied settlement” upgrae, enables them for water trade. Probably they will find best solution.
I like that the trade is limited to TCs so you don’t have the strange thing where there is a market in 2 corners of the map like in AoE2.
Trading with a TC means you are literally trading with the centre of a town. I wish trade would be just between TCs tbh.
The only solution I see for water would be dedicated water settlements but they would be hard to place correctly on a random map and not sure how they would look like an what the building on top of them should be.
Water is super hard to take back, so it is way too easy to defend water trade. Whole intent of fishing ship rate nerf was to make it so that losing water doesn’t immediately end the game and you want to make water overpowered again? Please no.
Coastal settlements could help reducing snowballing on water.
They would help with coastal defence and provide players with a protected way to build ships to fight back against naval domination.
Sounds interesting. They could repurpose the Naval Shipyard from the original game, which as far as I know, didn’t have any actual function in-game. You could build trading ships from them, which would travel between your or your allies’ docks and the Naval/Trade Dockyard, similar to how caravans travel between TCs and markets.
Yeah, I know it’s a military-only building in the original game, which is why I said it could be repurposed. A coastal version of the Town Center/Village Center could work too. It could train both villagers and trade ships, and maybe land caravans could trade with it too? Though that might make it too complicated.
You are talking to me?
I use a spell checker but not an auto correction because that sometimes just turns words into wrong words without me noticing.
The problem is it that it looks like a military building. Not really worth repurposing it.
On land trade is between Market and Town Centre so on water it should logically be between Dock and Coastal Town Centre.
Since the market trains the Caravan the Dock should train the Trade Ship.
