First of all, I wanna say thank you Devs, this is amazing work!
The recent pup patchlog got me by surprise, a VERY positive surprise.
It is a very natural thing that certain things will not seem well balanced after this patch, as the changes go very deep in the system and are reworking very basic things.
But I am positive that the Devs will keep observing the game even after the patch goes live and will bit by bit finetune the recent changes and values.
The most amazing part of this patch was the siege range resist in % values!
Wow, I had been asking for this since release, this is an amazing change!!!
Now that you have started the good work, I kindly want to request you to change the whole damage system for all units in the game to % values.
This would solve all the balancing and design issues, which are currently very problematic.
Such as:
One single cheap blacksmith upgrade (armor or ranged armor) can reduce the damage of a unit against another unit by 50%, from 2 to 1.
2 upgrades can in some cases reduce the incoming damage by 66.66%, from 3 to 1.
This is a HUUUUUUUGE issue, being overlooked by many people.
In fact, it is absolutely game-breaking.
A unit, which is really good against another unit (logical counter), can get HARDCOUNTERED by that said unit with just one (supposed to be small!!! dmg/armor) upgrade.
And it is completely inconsistent throught all the ages and different units.
If at least it would always affect one specific unit against another specific unit the same (as done in aom retold), no, it is completely inconsistent. The first upgrade may have almost no effect, the 2nd may have a HUGE effect or the first being game-breaking and the 2nd haveing absolutely no effect because the incoming damage was already reduced to basedamage (1) by the previous upgrade.
So I kindly want to request you - and I know that means a lot of work in the short run, but saves you TONS of work in the long run and would FINALLY fix the countersystem which is extremely problematic right now - change the whole game’s system to % resistances.
Melee resist and ranged resist.
Just copy the exact same system from aom retold or aoe3de and all the problems of balancing are solved.
After that, with just adjusting a few values a little, you can PRECISELY finetune the game without each changed value breaking 50 others, as it is the case right now.
