What AOE2 Players think of AOE4?

Title, what do you guys think of AOE4? is it better or worst?

Worse definitely.
AoE4 has little value for campaign players like me.

I think AoE2 is better than 4. It’s not easy to put my finger on exactly why. First I might say graphics are too dark.

Never played aoe4. I like aoe2 more.

I guess aoe4 is a nice game, My gaming life has currently no space for it. I am the kind of people who can enjoy the same games under the same settings over and over after all.

I am not into some aoe4 mechanics I saw in earlier aoe4 tournaments such are group conversion, defeat by destroying age up building, and auto-ballistics. I occasionally play aoe3, but the auto-ballistics and the snare of melee units were quite a hurdle to get into the game. I don’t know enough of the good stuff there might be in aoe4 to be interested.

I feel 3Dsick when I watch AOE4 games. I don’t like that bird’s eye view, it seems bent. (I don’t get 3Dsick with AOM games for some reason) However, I also think there may be some fun things in AOE4 for some players.

I predicted AOE4 as a fps view game. You would become leader and order to your units in the game.

AoE2 has more symmetrical Civs Design and a lot more of single-player content while AeO4 has a lot of gimmicky civilizations and a clear emphasis on multiplayer content, which makes it more difficult to try new civs or knowing how to counter enemy civs and doesn’t have almost any content for single-player lovers.

I would love to try it for real, but my laptop can’t handle it…

Playing only a few hours of campaigns, it appears to have nice graphics, sound effects and music.
I hate the icons, too confusing compared to AoE2.

I played aoe4 and I think it’s a good game. The civs feel very unique from each other and I love how civs in aoe4 are actually more historically accurate than aoe2, also I love the fact that you don’t need castles (keep) to train unique units and infantries can build siege units on the field. Overall, I have good time with it…Though the campaign contents are lack luster, which is a big deal for me. If aoe2 is 10/10 then aoe4 is around 8/10 for me

i tried the campaigns in closed beta, they were awful. also the game just wasn’t ready, even for a beta. haven’t touched it since, have little to no interest, it’s not appealing to me

I think most AOE2 players have been playing the game for many years. Plus, I think most player base are +30 years old, so time gaps for playing usually are spended in well knew games and AOE4 has too much information to learn.

I genuely like both games, but I prefer 4

AoE4 has great graphics and music/sound. Little single player content, too much focus on multiplayer and eSports. Asymmetrical civilizations are great for single player, not for multiplayer, especially when you have to learn all the different bonuses and counters.
Awful icon design and I don’t like the concept of variant civilizations.
The worst thing that happened to AoE4 was its release; and it will be very hard to overcome that.
MS will continue to support AoE4 for many years, I really hope they succeed as a game and as a eSport.

AoE 2 has more content and campaigns, but AoE 4 has more potential… I think that in 2027-2028 AoE 4 will be in an ideal place (8 campaigns for the base game civs and like 34 civs between main civs and variants)… now the new DLC will bring the Teutonic Order and we will see the Crusades from the European side and then the Baltic crusades against Lithuania and Poland…

Initially when it released on Xbox, I went straight from II and played IV. It was modern and felt nicer to control and command units. Then I got bored pretty fast and now I have several days of playtime in II but not as much in IV. So yes it looked nice but I didn’t want to try the multiplayer, just campaign. I enjoyed the documentary videos!

Yes, I put 100 hours into 4, completing all of its campaigns, and then I just left it because I ran out of content…

Is there any particular reason why you post this both here as well as on reddit? Is it to stir up drama?

I guess he wants different opinions…

Im no the OP of that post and nothing wrong with that, asking different opinions

I think it’s very meh

Uhm… you are the OP of that post given that your posts on reddit as well as this forum are just two minutes apart from each other:

grafik

Also, as you then cropped the most negative comments from the reddit thread and made a post in the AoE 4 sub, something tells me you’re not acting in good faith.
