Again as i said a bunch of sadge aoe3 players that are upset about their game not up to snuff.
Comparing physics and supposed that SUPERIOR physics is an EMPAHTIC metric that PROVES which game is better? Huh? A bunch of trolls…
The most important metric of a successful game is FUN. PROBLEM IS…the definition of FUN isn’t the same for everyone. So had this thread started with a specific definition of the author’s fun then those that agreed with the definition could consider his ideas and those that defer in that fundamental definition could respectful disagree and lrt that be that…
But when you and your kind want to define WHAT SHOULD BE THE DEFACTO FUN? Or what SHOULD BE A METRICS USED TO PROVE FUN?.. IMO you just sound obtuse.
Someone: AOE3 physics is better
You: The most important metric of a successful game is FUN blahblahblahblahblah
Okay. What is your opinion about physics then?
Edit: by the same logic the documentary or units on walls or asymmetric civ design that AOE4 keeps advertising is not an advantage at all because you can compare the player count with AOE2 and the gameplay is much more uni-dimensional than it seems and the most important metric of a successful game is FUN. Then you can special summon GbMt.
You are right, fun is subjective but the discussion is not about fun but about the lack of objective features in aoe4 but present in the previous games, in other words, these things are a part of the game’s quality which includes the multiplayer features(hotkeys, servers, …) or singleplayer features(campaings , visuals, AI,…), if the quality of visuals doesn’t matter for your “fun metric” it matters for the people who are opening these topics, and the presence of it wouldn’t ruin the game for who don’t care. And to think that a lot of these quality aspects were lost from a 2005 game while it should have been increased it’s just sad. I would never say that aoe3 is better than aoe4 because “better” it’s subjective if you don’t consider a metric, but aoe3 has better visual quality than aoe4 and that makes it better regards to this subject, and that’s one of the biggest problem which I insist to point , a 2021 AAA having inferior animations, physics, environment details than the pre-sequel from 2005 …
The ragdolls and often the building pieces flying off are just completely inaccurate physics. Sure I get them being fun and silly, but I’ve seen multiple people try to argue that they were realistic.
Yes, in fact aoe 3 looked like a 2010 game released in 2005 and aoe 3 DE is seen as a game that could well be considered truly 2020 and that has nothing to envy to games like iron harvest and mannor lords…but aoe 4 looks like a game from 2011 or worse 2006 released in 2021…the geometry of the terrain looks very little detailed compared to the models of the buildings and spoil the whole a little…
don’t get me wrong, the game looks good, but compared to aoe 3, it could have looked better…in fact company of heroes 3 will look like this and uses the same engine as aoe 4:
Yes,as with cof cof coh 3 cof cof for example…and that this photo is of the alpha of the game,so you will tell me if the graphics engine does not have potential…
Aoe 4 in 4k with max details is far more detailed than AOE3DE in 4k at maximum. No way to compare.
If you compare them in full HD where aoe4 needed to scale down details for be able to play due to old pc, it’s clear that graphics seems odd and ugly…
There is an important difference between AoE2 DE, AoE3 DE and AoE4: The first 2 games have their ceiling, they will no longer grow in players or the capabilities of the game itself. Both AoE2 and AoE3 have gone too far in terms of the number of civilizations and already look like Pokémon games.
The art style of the game represents totally subjective tastes and AoE4 has the ability to be Reworked as necessary to appeal to a majority of players.
The important thing is mainly to attract casual players from Blizzard, AoE2/3 and, if possible, from other genres. You have to look for popularity, not something like Iron Harvest or other games that are only played by 4 cats.
This forum is an unreal representation of player discontent, most of the complainers comment here, the ones that are fine with the game comment on Reddit at best.
The criticism of AoE4 is already known, we will see in these months what happens. Many of you want to kill it before time and it is neither the first nor the last time that a game, with months or more than 1 year of life, comes back.
Lots of civilization to choose from is something good. Actually AOE4 hopefully have more in the near future.
I agree it is important to attract casual players. The focus should be less on pros and over balancing everything. Instead new content, game modes, new civs, new campaigns and so on is needed.
I don’t think this forum is an unreal representation of players. There are also casual AOE4 players here.
I agree everyone should AOE4 give a fair chance and also see the positive things.
Unfortunately, this forum is a pit of continuous complaints, some with more reason and others with less.
I have no doubt that this year there can be a DLC with at least 2 civilizations.
I don’t see anything wrong with a variety of civilizations, but if they want a minimum of asymmetry, they can’t go overboard if they want the game to be balanced.
A sufficient variety of professionals and technical players (with different ways of thinking) should be the pillar to balance civilizations in the face of competition, that has happened in all E-sports genres, another thing is that fun mechanics are eliminated for all players .
With the mods I understand that expert modders can design civilizations for casual games? I think alternative civs (whether OP or not) can be made outside of competitive play.
AoE casual players expect lots of civilizations. It’s just the staple. When I loaded up both AoE III, and AoE IV, I was so disappointed by the low civ count. But they won’t be able to balance even 30 civs (AoE II is up to 39 now) for AoE IV if they stay as varied as they are now.
Separating out competitive civs from noncompetive ones could be a good solution and would also help alleviate the load off of pro players as I’ve heard they were concerned, too. There’s no harm letting people play whatever if it’s in custom games or against bots.
SCII has lots of alternate modes and the campaign has lots more units than normal and it only helps the game.
