What can be done to salvage AoE4?

Aoe3 is better than ever. Compliment to art design, very good icons and units

Of course, the same I think… in fact aoe 4 has potential, but the updates come very slowly… that’s why I’m going to wait until October to see what the state of aoe 4 is like…

Of course in fact aoe 3 came out with 8 civs of departure and they were all European and all were played more or less the same (except for some other card) and still it was enjoyable, I was a year with the game until in 2006 I tried the age of kings and then the conqueros…

Of course, I hope those civs are good of the kind of asymmetry of the Mongols, my favorite civ of the game (considering that they already nerfed the Holy Empire)…

Agree with what age of noob said and a lot of other suggestions from people.

I know for myself the biggest reason I stopped playing Age4 and went back to AOE2DE was the camera and zoom functionality.
The max zoom has to be increased a lot for me to come back, I realized very quickly it just wasn’t enjoyable to constantly be fighting against the camera, an issue I never have in age2

And more varied campaigns, in addition to naval missions (in the game there is no misery naval mission), the Mongolian campaign goes and passes because it was all steppe but the rest?..In addition to putting campaigns for the Holy Roman Empire and Delhi, similar to those of Barbarossa and Babur of the 2 DE…

Yes, AoE 4 does not have to resemble AoE 2 or AoE 3 but has to have its own light (if they set it in the twentieth century it would have been better, but good is what there is)…

Yes, the strongold series (this one had units above its walls)

Salvage is a strong word. Fanbases tend to get a little sensational/dramatic when left to their own devices. That said and in spirit of the thread, the most significant way to “improve AOE4 immediately” is to launch a Dev Dairies segment. In short, weekly or biweekly dev meetings that broadcast to the fanbase both upcoming changes, controversial balancing, overall game vision and of course, progress teasers.

This isn’t a revolutionary idea, it’s a borderline industry standard at this point. Foxhole, World of Warcraft, Star Citizen to name a few. This allows the team to address serious issues and concerns, maintain the hype and steer their playerbase away from intellectual self harm.

quit, vote with your wallet on their next game and let them know this game isnt worth your time and money. let them know due to their of greed, and made it only for esport, they ignored mass majority of casual players who would otherwise enjoy this game even decade after it’s release just like AOE1 through 3.

support is missing
bugs everywhere
QOL features missing
doggy projectile physics
clunky movement

I was glad to hear the views were only 7k for a $100k dollar tournament. It’s just sad us players and fans will take the brunt of this and they might drop support for this game and exit esport market altogether because of this “flop”.

may very well blame on the RTS genre rather than reflect on what they have done.

edit: further more, dont be like these people below that can’t take criticism and respond with low effort replies like “if you don’t like it dont play”. it’ll only hurt community even more.

Looking at the leaderboards on the official site for AoE III DE and AoE IV, AoE IV has a lot more players than III DE, and III DE is still getting plenty of support, so I can’t see any reason why they would drop support for IV.

Personally I’m enjoying IV more by playing co-op against hard AI rather than hardest, because it means I can use a wide variety of strategies and still win. Against hardest, teammates quit a lot of the time, leaving me to 1v4, and my strat options to win like that are pretty limited.

the support level you’re talking about is way different from what im describing.

I am talking about the decision behind going esports and pouring big money in to get viewers, that level of support is going downhill fast especially compared to earlier tournament prize money.

its pretty straight forward really. invest money and hope it’ll get market share from existing top esports game and then viewership will generate way more money than they’d spend in the future.

now thats not possible, support will get pulled soon.

First off, I have played AoE for decades and I have always loved it. 4 is no exception, although for me it still hasn’t surpassed AoE II at its best, which I think was the Conquerors Expansion. But there is still time and the game is so new! If we had everything at once there’d be nothing to look forward to, but here are some things I’d like to see developed:

A handful of more civilisations with more variety
Ability to build different structures, such as bridges over water like you see in some of the campaigns
Monks being able to convert would make the game more difficult but I’m not sure I want to suggest it for that reason as I’m a casual who likes a fairly easy time!
How about a whole new subset of skills, like magic, which add to the role of monks and prelates in other ways and help offer different sorts of games within games
Introducing kings and queens into different civilisations - similar to the Khan I guess - so there is a ‘kill the king’ option in matches
I agree with the suggestion about more trading options but haven’t thought about that too much so I’m not sure what to suggest
Another level after the Imperial Age, perhaps that could be set voluntarily so you can choose whether to end after Imperial or keep going for another level, might be fun. That’s where you could perhaps introduce a regicide or magic option, plus a new resource etc.
How about having wild animals which you can capture and train to use in farming or battles? (again this could be another type of game within the game)
It may be because I’ve not tried to do this much, but it seems likely the alliance system can be improved upon to make that open up different options

To be honest I think there is so much that can be done to develop the game and that it will be here for a long time, as it is still the original and best!

DOW sync kills and melee/range mechanics are glorious ,unmatched, glorious days of real Relic team.

Yo sinceramente estoy feliz con esto, si se ven algo mal. es que tengo los gráficos del juego en el mínimo, mi portátil es algo pésima xd

Dude, I love your optimism.

I’m right there with you.

I’ve ventured into the map making. Seeing how the game works in areas.

Can’t help but think they are building content for the game right now. We all know they launched too soon, but now it’s good.

I’ve stopped caring with those forum posts of, “I’m quitting game, let me tell you why”. I don’t care for other peoples reasons of leaving

All the UI, zoom, and graphic, artwork are minor to me.
But all the little problems add up and become a big problem. Devs keep saying that they want players to focus in high level strategy but man it actually requires more efforts for you to allow your army function normally.

  1. I literally don’t understand why army dance and circle when you click ‘attack’ to the enemy. You need to micro them and the clickbox is just bad af.
  2. Siege is such a joke, the worst design of the game. If I wanna play two troops shooting to each other I rather play other relic game.
  3. Building keeps, or any building, in stealth forest, or anywhere close to the forest, then your trebs not going to function to take them down. I don’t know is it designed for purpose? Just frustrating.
  4. the homing arrow take away so much fun. It looks awkward, it takes away the micro,
  5. 100 woods to build a tower, and the range of tower is just ridiculous, and what is the costs to take down tower?? definitely costs you more than 100 woods. The trade is just ridiculous.

You have so many loyal fans from different RTS communities but you still can create the game that is far from the standard that we expect. Such a shame to see that…

Of course, I for now play the campaigns and so far the one I liked the most is the Mongolian (although I think they missed the opportunity to put delhi and the Abbasids in that campaign, although it must be that they did not have them done at that time)…
