What changes in the last year or 2 you liked?

This refers to everything that you felt changing. Not necessary something the devs did, like introducting new mechanics or civs or whatever.

Also changes to the meta, the community or whatever… perception, mods, coverage…

For example:

Some time ago they changed my beloved Koreans. I wasn’t a fan of it immediately because it came with nerfs to War Wagons which I always saw as a core of the Koreans gameplay. Nowadays Koreans function perfectly fine without War Wagons and have a destinct spot in the meta.
It’s maybe not exactly what I whished to happen to the civ, but they have now their destinct spot - and it worked. Koreans were bulking before and now it’s a decent civ. Nobody is complaining. Which is for the most part the best compliment you can give to any dev initiated changes in this game.

Pathfinding also was a big topic for the most time last year. But it looks for me it has become way, way better.
Nobody is singing praise anthems to it, but i don’t have many complaints these days. And this is a huge step forward in my eyes.

The scorpion affected by ballistic for sure. Though the dev may want to revert a few buffs they made back then.

  1. Addition of Dromon. Although it is an OP unit, an alternate unit addition to an existing unit will always be welcomed by me.
  2. Ram buffs - extra speed, garrison space and attack bonus.
  3. Gold and Stone Shaft Mining cost reduction.
  4. All the scorpions buffs, maybe except the ballistic one.
  5. Burmese UT swap.
  6. Chinese rework.
  7. PERSIAN REOWRK. NOW SWITCH THEIR ARCHITECTURE TO CENTRAL ASIAN FOR GOD’S SAKE
  8. Magyar TB change. (It was my proposal for a long long time)
  9. Monk Conversion rework.
  10. Battle Elephant conversion resistance. Didn’t like massive food cost reduction though.
  11. Tower and Donjon wood cost reduction.
  12. Mongols nerf.
  13. Sicilians new bonus of faster building walls and gates.
  14. The small Aztecs buff.

Koreans have been my favourite civ pretty much since they were originally added. I have mixed feelings about the changes over the past few years.

The naval changes are definitely welcome and a big improvement. I think they were always labelled as a naval civ, but originally this just meant they got Turtle Ships. Now they have the wood discount on warships, elite cannon galleon, and Turtle Ships have had several buffs.

On land, it’s more mixed. The wood discounts are a big improvement. Before they were added they had a rubbish economy, and wood especially was a problem because they need it for almost everything they might want to train.

On the other hand, it feels bad that both their unique techs used to be civ bonuses (one was even the team bonus). I also dislike that skirmishers counter war wagons – I don’t think this was true in The Conquerors, and it’s led to a situation where they don’t synergise well with Koreans’ other options which are also countered by skirmishers. (It also looks really silly.)

So, in some ways at least, they feel like a shadow of their former selves. But on the other hand, the changes have made them fit better into the way the game is played nowadays, and they are still my favourite civ.

Maybe I should have gone for this one instead:

Not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean when their Town Centre population bonus was increased? The addition of the resource drop-off hotkey really helped Chinese too, of course. I enjoy playing as them much more than I used to thanks to those two changes, but it doesn’t really seem like a “rework” to me.

Had to go back a bit to remind myself of what was in what year.

Likes:

  • Battle Elephant speed increase and conversion resistance
  • Japanese Cavalry Archers extra bonus damage
  • Persians gaining Savar & Caravanserai (now just give them the correct buildings)
  • Flaming Camels available at the Siege Workshop
  • Vietnamese economic techs research faster
  • Dromon addition
  • Franks castle stone cost nerf

Yes, I meant the Chinese stat change. Shouldn’t have said “Rework”.

That the devs focused on the last single player DLCs (and the antiquity in the case of ReoR and Chronicles) since they are conflicts that 1 DE didn’t touch and also the gameplay of 2 DE makes it more fun…and maybe that they touched exotic regions like India and the Caucasus (not to mention finally giving them a campaign and a rework of the Persians)…I feel that they will continue in the same line this year: a Chronicles DLC or touch an exotic region like the Balkans, China, Himalayas, South Africa or South America…
