What civs do well on closed maps 1v1?

if the enemy units retreat then my siege (Trebs or BBC) keep blasting away at their defenses and castles.

as the defender you’re going to be forced to engage at some point.

yeah i was looking more at 1v1. team games are a whole different beast. and yeah BBC is nice, but you are going to have to have solid micro with them because they lack engineers.

If the enemy has a diverse army of siege and archers the defending player would probably have Teutonic Paladins to handle that.

but the point was you were saying TK were a great unit. so basically if the enemy has either archers or onagers, which is pretty much everyone, then TK aren’t going to be a good unit.

TK have situations where they are good, but for the most part i would say its part of an offensive composition, rather then a defensive one. infantry/siege pushes being a good place to use it, but even then its niche.

They are but it’s not like any sane person would only produce them.

we’ve literally just shown that they are bad vs both siege and archers, the only place they excell is against melee units (Not leitis or cataphract though), and just like you said, no sane person is only going to produce melee units if the opponent is making TK.
they are going to mix in siege or archers and laugh at your TK.

I meant no player would just make Teutonic Knights, they would mix in some Paladins or Champions or even Hand Cannons.

you’re not going to be able to afford Paladin + ETK as its just too expensive.
Hand cannons and champions are options, though both champs + etk and hand cannons + ETK would just die to siege.

I have played several non-treaty games where I got Paladin, ETK and SO.

yes, and as you’ve been told NUMEROUS times, the way you play wouldn’t pan out against anyone of any decent skill level.
not only that, but if you could somehow afford that, your army would be insanely small and could be overwhelmed by the enemy army, because your economy would require something insane like 150 workers to keep making it.

Paladin is 1300 food and 750 gold. 1600 food and 1050 gold if you’re talking cavalier thrown in.
ETK adds another 1200 food and 600 gold on top of that.
onager + so is another 2250 food and 1500 gold for a total of 3150 gold and 5,050 food.

Even Cavaliers are perfectly good at dealing with onagers, and I could deal with archers by drawing them under my crenellated castle fire.

not when they have pikes/halbs in front of them.

assuming your opponent is an idiot.

Maybe that trick only works with AI.

You forgot about the Hand Cannons.

so you have an army of paladins, siege onagers, hand cannons, and elite teutonic knights, backed by castles with crenalations.

how many workers are you building this army off of? and how much gold do you actually have left?

No, I have an army of hand cannons, cavaliers, maybe monks and Teutonic knights.

Edit: Forgot about crenellations, just pretend that’s on the list.

you’re moving the goal posts now. originally we were talking about you having an army of tk with either champs or paladins or hand cannons. then an of paladins, siege onagers, and ETK - now you somehow have changed that to hand cannons and cavaliers.

but either way if you’re going cavalier + hand cannon, my onagers are going to outrange your hand cannons, which just leaves my pikes/halbs to mop up your cavalier.

Yes but then we lowered our expectations on how many upgrades the Teuton player has.

And my cavaliers are gonna wreck them.

no, i just pointed out that it wasn’t something you could afford. so you changed the composition you were going for without assuming that somehow the enemy composition would therefor change.

your cavaliers are going to wreck pikes and halbs? good luck. for your cavalier to get to my onagers they have to go to melee range to do that. which means my halbs move forward and wreck them.

I could field both my cavaliers and hand cannons at the same time, and my Teutonic Knights could probably tank some onager shots to take out some of the halbs.

yes but the onagers outrange the hand cannons. which means for your hand cannons to shoot at my halbs, they have to get within onager range. so if they come forward they get wrecked, which just leaves your cavalier to get mopped up by the halbs.

and again, you’re affording this army how?
you have TK, Cavalier, and hand cannons. how? go watch some pro games and tell me how often you see such an expensive army fielded.
