What do you expect for the upcoming anniversaries?

We have quite a lot aoe anniversaries coming up:

  • 2027: 30th anniversary of the aoe franchise
  • 2028: 10 years of DE Versions
  • 2029: 30th anniversary of aoe2 and 10th anniversary of aoe2DE
  • 2030: 10th anniversary of aoe3DE

So here are some ideas of what could come for aoe2 in the next 4 years

  • Chronicles “bronze age” with Egyptians, Babylonians and Assyrians
  • The missing campaigns for return of Rome
  • Chronicles “the Roman empire” with much more than 3 civs to tell the whole Roman history.
  • A main Stream DLC with 10 new civs (Africa could use it)
  • Regional unit skins
  • 12 player support for matches (there are hints for that in the game files)
  • More upgrades for gunpowder units (musketeers)
  • A north American DLC

But maybe I am too optimistic. What do you think?

Probably celebratory packs…30th anniversary in 2027 selling the entire saga up to that point…2028 making 1DE free to play and releasing the RoN DE…2029 making free some more DLCs for 2DE, 2030 no idea…hopefully campaigns for 3DE…

I like more those ideas.

For the main game could be a new “Forgotten Empires” DLC, for example:

  • 1 nomadic civ (Khitan/Tanguts split?)
  • 1 European civ (Swiss? Frisians? Normans? Cavalry Goths?)
  • 1 African civ (Songhai? Ghana?)
  • 1 American civ (Tlaxcaltecs?)
  • 1 South Asian civ

Mounted Samurai getting a correct skin.

Mounted samurai when the Japanese get split out. Call it the Yabusame since most were using bows instead of horseback katana weebery!

I dunno if it should get bonuses vs UUs from a distance especially if paired with the current Japanese civ having the +2 vs archers bonus

Not sure what civs there would be except maybe Emishi, Ainu and… Ryukuyans (sic)?!

Not too gung-ho on this but if we ever go to Japan it might be interesting to see this route

African next DLC for sure, Balkans DLC at some point hopefully before any nonsensical AoK/AoC civ splits like Vikings…There’s still pontential civs that aren’t splits.

We always have the japanese clans to split.

Don’t give the devs bad ideas! No clan civs pls.

Btw, since Varangians are now a civ, we could get “Wokou” as an alternative to Ryukyuans with some Chinese and Filipino units (because they were multi-ethnic and raided quite far)

There can be a free game mode for 2029. 18 AoC civs with AoC settings and DE graphics. People may have fun with nostalgic AoC gameplay.

Samurais are top tier pop culture stuff its just a matter of time till japanese get the 3k treatment.Oda, Takeda, Uesugi, Mori, and Otomo are good additions with mounted samurai with a proper skin becoming the knight replacement.

No, it’s not. They know what happened last time, and it would be just as stupid.

Yea Ryuku and Emishi and Ainu feel more appropriate although how many of them would have mounted samurai with katanas or naginatas

  • A 3rd remake of the game fixing all the pathing issues, match making issues, cheating and smurfing and replacing 3k civs with Tibetans, Tanguts and Xianwei.
  • Chronicles and Return of The Rome becoming independent of owing AoE II:DE and getting their own separate launchers.

That’s a bad idea. The main game benefits way more from chronicles like it is now since all the assets and functions can also be used in mainstream campaigns.

All of it can be easily used in mods too.

Also, if you have a separate launcher, you would need to install most of the database two times if you want to play both.

It definitely should stay together.

They didn’t even do anything for the 20th Anniversary of vanilla AoE3
