What is required to create a mod?

Other than the game, what is required to make a mod? Let’s put the complexity level at a European civ with one unique unit, no unique buildings.

Also, any good YouTube channels on AoE3 modding?

The first thing you’ll certainly need is the AoE3 Resource Manager. This tool lets you look at the files and programming AoE3 uses to run, and it’ll give you insight on the kinds of files you’d need to create for mods and the like:

As for other guides on how to mod, or for tools on creating new unit skins or flags or whatever, somebody else will be better equipped to answer.

Of course, you can always check mods already made, specially if those change things like whatever you want to change.

Certainly an option, though it could be fun to make my own. Either way, probably not something to do right now. I’ve bookmarked this thread for a later date

Making a civ requires you to dip your toes into a handful of files just to set it up, and probably not a great place to start IMO. I would personally try to first just reskin a unit or even reskin an existing civ.

Here’s the dev’s guide to modding:

Good luck!

There are many useful tutorials in this topic to learn how to make mods:

Modding wikia - Age of Empires III: DE / III - Modding - Age of Empires Forum

This link contains an official document that serves as a data guide for important files for making mods.

It is also recommended to check out the AOE3 Modding section on the official Age of Empires Discord.

Greetings, i was wondering if you could help me out with a quick question, how did you manage to put an infantry model onto a horse for cavalry?

Hi! I would gladly help, but tell me, exactly which of my units are you talking about?

so, my friend saw you post an image with the Bersagliere a Cavallo, and we are trying to use the age 5 Emboscador model to replace age 5 Mexican dragoons, were having difficulty with how you managed to convert a unit into a rider? thank you very much!

Well, my Bersagliere a Cavallo is not exactly a Bersagliere. Is a retextured Carbine Cavalry with a bersagliere hat attachment. I’m happy you liked it, but it is not a conversion.
However, I think there are some people in this forum that may have achieved that.

oh wow! that makes a lot of sense! ill see what i can dig up, thank you for your time!
