Why are they introducing in game player scores?? The lack of score makes scouting much more important. Most people I’ve seen commenting on it agree and like this change from AOE2. I don’t understand what’s motivated them to put them back in?
It’s great having to rely on scouting and not being able to tell from score when people are aging up etc.
EDIT: Never mind it’s not for quickmatch/ranked. Only for custom games!
- Make the choice to turn on and view in-game player scores! Based on community feedback, we’ve made the decision to implement in-game scores for those who wish to have them. We know that using this feature can change the way you choose to play the game, and so we want to empower you to make the choice for yourself – starting with our Winter 2021 update, you’ll be able to enable in-game player score on a case-by-case basis for custom lobby multiplayer and skirmish matches.
This looks promising. I don’t follow their prioritizing though, as Hotkeys coming after Spring 2022 is a bit late for my taste
Agreed, like the player score for custom games seems like the lowest priority thing ever. I imagine it is just way easier to implement than hotkeys.
Also, I would much prefer being able to resize the minimap more than the changes they do mention for it.
I am glad they are going to improve the unit stat cards (PLEASE make the pips correspond directly to upgrades and not the hidden thresholds of a pointless 5 star rating system), but I still haven’t ever seen them acknowledge that the tech trees are pretty terrible and definitely need improvements. You cannot even see unit stats in them which is crazy. The layout is also way worse than AoE2 or AoEO. Either of those would be way better, maybe the AoEO format if they are concerned about excessive side scrolling (doubt it though since currently a ton of vertical scrolling is required).
I wonder when exactly this patch is supposed to happen.
Great news many good thing on the list Would love to get Hotkeys earlier tho. Coming from 23 years of playing Blizzard Rts games, Not being able to Press Like B for Barracks and A for archer makes me kinda crazy.
yes, I agree with you. I am very optimistic to play aoe4 then
This would be my explanation as well; they are probably busy making mod and map tools so it would make sense to make tweaks (score is already in the game) rather than implement new things.
Some good stuff on their list. Here’s hoping they also add a multiplayer pause function and let us zoom out a tad more.
This list of coming changes is great. Relic are making great plans/paying attention to what people have been asking for.
Great to see a roadmap finally come out! Looking forward to these changes
It matches up with Relic’s history of relying on a gridkey-like system. Taking them at their word, they’re saying it’s a fair bit of work. It might be something that challenges their existing (pretty mature) tech stack at this stage.
It’d be worth it, I’ve got to say. It’s never something I’ve been fussed on, but the drive for it here (combined with the popularity of the product) isn’t worth ignoring.
While complete customizable hotkeys would be welcome, I understand the challenge to implement something that was not laid out for it. One if not the most requested feature concerning hotkeys is allowing the usage of mouse buttons, which the engine are currently not recognizing? They should explain what’s the problem there.
It would be a start though if they could expand on the current existing logic (you are able to select all villagers, military etc.) and add options to select all barracks, stables, TCs etc.
Also, them simply unlocking keys like the ALT key and allowing combinations used for things like “select all eco units” should be simple UI tweaks, as I can already change these things in the config files.
This is good news. Kudos to the dev team.
btw, rather than making the easy AI easier, it is better to introduce a new level as “Easiest AI”.
Awesome. Any date for v1.0, will it make in 2022?
What the Roadmap is entirely missing though are the little QoL and UI tweaks like Color selection, Intelligent selection, exclusive control groups etc.
This is true. I’m thinking can it be that they are included just not specified specifically under the roadmap, and that they are under one of the mentioned points?
One of their Community Managers mentioned on Reddit that Relic is doing a Twitch livestream at 2:30PM Pacific time today on balance, roadmap and the ‘coming soon’ Winter patch: Twitch
The weird thing is the smart selection being broken was mentioned in one of their streams as something they had already fixed from the build used in the beta, but it still doesn’t actually work.
Finally. Seems they listen. First step in the right direction. Most important things are adressed.
