What should Age of Empires IV improve?

Ofc new content is the most exciting, but most important to me is for them to keep improving what’s already there, including existing textures for the base civs (some of the building textures there look horrible), graphics overall, observer interface (there’s so much they need to improve there), full information for units in the tech tree and more information in game, even animations and art of existing units.

Then let’s add a dedicated co-op mode with matchmaking and a leaderboard, for the casual competitive crowd. Something well made, and scripted as the base AI is terrible. Make it have a leaderboard and scaling difficulty. I am willing to bet this will double the player base, like it did to Starcraft 2.

Let’s also improve the gameplay. Let’s make siege less annoying to play against when it’s massed. Everyone is complaining about it, even the pros. Let’s also make infinite resources less of a problem in late game and diminish unit spam. Let’s further improve the tickrate so units feel more responsive.

Now we’ll have a great base for adding new content and the game will blow up in popularity, making it much more profitable to release new DLC.

There’s a great niche to fill for a good modern RTS that’s not reliant on micro, and has a more balanced approach of macro/micro/strategy, and AoE4 is the best contender for this niche. It has a lot of content, lots of civs, maps with random generation, game modes that aren’t 1v1, beautiful art and buildings, and it’s much more enjoyable to play. Let’s make it great!

  • Archers should miss arrows, specially longbows, and specially vs fast moving units.

  • Mongols need to start with an extra villager to compensate for starting with the tc packed.

I played a lot of AoE4 whten the game came out, and loved it, but those 2 issues made me go back to AoE2. Now 2 years later I decided to play AoE4 again, but I can’t believe that those 2 issues hadn’t been solved yet.

It was a design choice for aoe4 and very honestly, one of the amazing ones.
Archers are perfectly fine not missing.
I love it and many others do too.
Always hated it in aoe2 that archers missed, so well.
We got aoe2 and aoe4, people can always play what they like now, win-win.

Not an issue.
Mongols are top-tier and bully most civs in 1v1 at conqueror level.

In fact, giving them an extra villager would just make them uber-op.

Missing targets is not an issue in AOE4 if there is balance and more interesting micromanagement is being incorporated otherwise.

Please, Make new helmets in every season, changing the helmets to every civ in the game in every season is cool and awesome

In fact, “homing missiles” enriches aoe4.
Since your archers don’t miss their arrows, you are forced to micro them well and target the light infantry, because they are balanced like that.
If you just randomly let the archers shoot (hello knights and maa), your archers won’t do any dps unlike in aoe2 where crossbows can shred knights in numbers very easily.
Especially when someone is turtling and you got archers, missing target would make it even worse.
Because your enemy can kite away while not taking damage if your archers miss.
This breaks the countersystem.
Archers → light infantry → cavalry → maa → archers

For those of us who use control groups exclusively on units (especially on hybrid maps that include ships) it is necessary for me to use the hotkeys for each building.

For this reason I request to include the possibility of disabling production on some buildings (this should cancel all ongoing production since it can be abused when reaching the population limit).

Mangonel siege units should no longer pack and unpack, to facilitate mobility, and it would be a huge visual improvement!!

Ghulam name should be change to Mubarizon like in CK3, Because “Ghulam” were only used in non Arab islamic civs like Ottomans/Delhi/Safavid, It used only in the late last weak Abbasids era. And I think Mubarizon should have their own ability and be strong. It’s the strongest infantry MAA unit in the entire CK3 game!, Changing the name to Mubarizun not only historical it’s also fit their voice lines in AOE4!

Malignant bugs can greatly make players feel disgusted, and I think fixing bugs and updating user experience in the game itself is important, in addition to updating the new civilization
Such as customizing the viewing position of the room, adjusting the playback timeline, and most importantly, making more user-friendly changes to some functions. These modifications may not require a lot of time, but can significantly improve the gaming experience

However, the new civilization is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and requires a lot of time to design and test whether it is feasible, unlike MOD. Balancing improvement also requires a lot of time for data collection, not short-term work
Therefore, I believe that more frequent hot patches can be added to urgently fix vulnerabilities that arise during the season, rather than twice a season

Ugh, this won’t let me post the same text in different posts? How dumb. Hopfully changing the biiggining will let me post this. -My friends and I have noticed a change in the AI difficulty. We think it was the 7/11/24 update that dorked up the difficulty settings. The first level is too easy and the 2nd level - which is what we always played - is much, mcuh harder than what it used to be. We played a few games with the difficulty set to Hard to compare the difference and they seem to be the same. The intermediate and Hard levels are pretty much the same diffaculty now. And Easy is too easy. You shouldn’t have to use mods to win at a game. We were hoping the issue would have been fixed by now, but it hasn’t so I am replaying on a few threads. There are 4 of us that play this game and we all agree that the Intermediate AI diffaculty has changed. Very frustrating. We used to have a lot of fun playing this game together. Now not so much because Easy AI is too easy and Intermetdiate AI is too hard. Again we don’t use mods or want to use mods.

AOE4 Will take a long time to improve itself, starting from the graphic update.

I said some months ago that AOMRE would had Better reviews in comparison to AOE4 and the Better graphic (wheater effects, fauna, physics and more) would marked and advantage for AOMRE.

I think that AOE4 Is a good game After all but the long wait from the last AOE (16 years from Aoe3) and the totally lack of competitors helped AOE4 in some way.

For this reasons i would like to see AOE5 soon as possibile because i strongly believe that World’s Edge learned a lot from the AOE4 launch and its critica, especially for the graphic aspects.

My hopes are also on aoe5, aoe4 has been a very big disappointment to me since release, in so many ways.

One might think 16 years after aoe3, aoe4 should have been even more amazing, especially graphically, as 16 years (!!!) had passed, hardware has gotten way stronger and newer, more polished engines are available.
But no, it was a huge step back, especially in terms of physics and ragdoll effects.

Terrible release, tons of bugs, many QOL features missing until this day, 3 years after release.

Agree, waiting for aoe5 and probably AOMR is the answer.
Aoe4 has proven over and over to be a gone case.
Countless surveys, beta feedback and so on and 3 years full of opportunities to push this game up to the state it should have been RELEASED at, but barely anything was done.

guys please the match making. why do i get a bunch of conquerors and golds mixed in a ranked lobby 4v4? it’s not fair. im diamond and with my rank as plat and i played with a bunch of golds/silvers and 1v3’d. it’s bad. it should not be possible for a gold and a conqueror to be in the same lobby. pls fix ur match making for more even games pls

now im in a team full of diamonds vs a team full of golds and everybody is spamming the group laugh taunt and disconnecting

Yes, I imagine pretty much everyone on these forums knows that, if they still have you unblocked.

I wouldn’t put my money on that. In a few months, AoMR will settle somewhere near AoE3DE player numbers.

Also, AoE4 is amazing.

Age of Empires 4 needs to provide a custom formation editor for each player. Give each player their own unique army formation. It makes each player unique. This is what makes the game truly genius

There are no longer just four formations(Z\X\C\NONE)

It would be cool if they removed wedge formation and replaced it with a “custom” formation just had them maintain whatever their current relative positioning is.

Wedge is useful. The issue with it is that it isn’t smooth like the other formations. It will actively have units stutter and slow down at a critical time. The formation itself is almost necessary to ensure most charge attacks actually connect (for some reason charge attacks miss in the default formation).
