What should Age of Empires IV improve?

Outstanding games require outstanding courage for innovation.
Sorry for you not being a fan of these changes while not even having felt the results.
Sometimes change to something you are familiar with, can be scary.
Once you give it a chance, you’ll end up liking it and you’ll be glad about the change.
Trust me bro

I frequently say the same. A lot of this to me seems to be going back to AoE III without modernising anything - just straight up taking things and dropping them in. Not sure how it’d pan out at all, but it’d make for a very different game than most of us have spent close to the past two years playing

Personally, AoE III exists for people who like that game. I’d rather IV be its own thing, just like I want it to keep moving beyond the obvious inspiration it took from II.

Maybe with expanded modding tools, you could see your ideas realised.

Very honestly, I would not want Aoe4 to be like aoe3 (DE!) either.
No content-overload.
Aoe3 Vanilla did MANY things right, which can be picked up for aoe4.

Snare, countersystem calcalutation, % resistances, less macro, more micro, EXCITING fights which MASSIVELY REWARD godlike micro and so on…

It’s (imo) a nobrainer for me, to take these as in inspiration for aoe4.

Who wants to play aoe2, can do that and will!
Aoe4 is should not go back to outdated ideas from 1998.

Your idea for a mods is nice.
Though that would not help anyone, as you’d have to find people to play with you in customs.
This can never be competitive and will be a niche, also no ranked system.

Hello,

There are mistakes that we make frequently and maybe it’s saying solutions instead of pointing out the problem and showing that a part of the player base also have that problem.

Excuse me please, I struggle to understand what you are trying to say.
Could you please explain it in a different way?
Sorry, English is not my native language.

but there no solution discussion without pointing it out . so is invalid to say that in this topic purpose

yup so thats why @Carry_Potter_woll suggestion are much better than the current ones. Currently is following that trend with new units so it would be not surprise that they implement those ideas in the future. The question of that you may accept it is up to you.

In your opinion.

This is the challenge the developers have. A lot of folks with conflicting ideas about how this game (not the next game; this one) should go. It’s easy to say “this is better”. It’s harder to demonstrate that.

An example of what I mean is this:

The user @Carry_Potter_woll points out a problem in another thread: The cavalry is very strong and it is difficult for them to be punished when they raid.

The first thing the user has to do is show that the cavalry problem really seriously affects a significant part of the players and is quite effective or is it something that happens in their team games and he really doesn’t like the metagame tend to be like that.

And if that problem was real, there are plenty of solutions that developers could opt for to solve it.

The question is if the specific solution proposed by the user (snare) is really something that can satisfy the rest of the players, analyzing in turn the balance problems when implementing it and the time it would take to do it (knowing that there are other problems highest priority).

This is a mistake that many of us make (myself included). It is better to point out a problem by showing that it really is so and not to propose such a specific solution, but to guide the developers a bit so that they can then take a great solution for the majority.

Another reason why our feedback from the multiple betas should be published.
We were promised a feedback to our feedback, which we have never received.
It’s important (for both the players and devs) to know what the playerbase is about and especially a poll-like feedback from an open beta…
Would bring a lot of transparence and again, it was promised.

If they developers face problems about TASTE and not just pure logics, then the only way to solve it is starting polls and asking the community what they want and PUBLISH the results.
Not very time consuming task with BIG rewards for both sides.
Unfortunately, this kind of transparence is not wanted from the team, obviously.

I want a hotkey for ‘most recent notification’. Something that is in AOE3 but for some reason not 4.

I want to queue units and create the queue all at once. Something that is in AOE3 but for some reason not 4.

No but facts. the playerbase drop say the reaction towards the initial state of aoe 4 in mechanics and interaction (beside content in general). replicating aoe 2 formula is a fool thing. Only innovating and try to be the version of aoe 3 on today is the way

allow me to improve the advanced settings mod please

The drop in players in this game is multifactorial and responds to various reasons.

Please stop saying “facts” instead of opinions saying that AoE4 should follow the line of AoE3.

I refer to my most recent post in this thread.

Please let us zoom out a lot further.
Especially the classic camera is claustrophobically close, to an extend that it completely ruins the game-fun.
Please, I beg u, let us zoom out more further.

he said it and is snare mechanic which works like the other exmaple that I gave you in another thread. the problem with aoe 2 which is now aoe 4 has is the superiority of cav and archers because inf that counters cav cnat control and is weak . Thats why snare is the mechanic that spear needs so they can control cav. It satisfy the acutal gameplay to be not aoe 2 and have more variety than just cav raids every game.

because it is. aoe 3 innovate the rts in making somethign unique. Also i didnt say it has to be a copy paste but be its own aoe 3 for today. different and that dont fall in the nostagia trap which aoe 4 fell. the only opinion about it is the mecvhanic used to reach that one which is there a betetr one i can hear to improve and make it a better aoe 4

Well said bro, completey agree with your points.
Noone is asking for aoe4 to become aoe3.
Though certain aspects of aoe3 finding solutions for problems were fanstastically innotvative and effective.
The devs had found a way to implement mechanics and a countersystem and tweak all the units in a way, that you could counterplay any strategy with any civ (mostly) WITHOUT having to stick to only one response.
The snare was the way to balance cav and the unstoppable raids.
Spearmen feel like they have no say on the battlefield in aoe4, I’d even say they feel even less useful than in aoe2, where at least they do significant damage to cav and are more durable in fights when the enemy has also archers.
In aoe3 on the other hand, pikes are extremely weak vs archers (but also cheap), whereas they completely destroy cavalry (cost effectively) and are also a serious threat for structures due to their high siege damage.
In aoe3 it is very tough to raid a player who’s positioning their pikes well and super risky in fact.
There is comes down to a super skilled micro battle.
The better player gets a huge reward.

In aoe4 its just:
run in, run out, run in, run out, run in, run out, run in, run out and wait for the enemy having to switch his camera to some other place on the battlefield because other tasks are pending.
In aoe3, you could save the situation by quickly and skillfully manourvering your pikes to catch the cav and punish them to death.
A hussair costs 120f 80g = 200 ress, a pikeman costs 40f 40w = 80 ress.
Still, 5 pikes are a super serious threat for 5 huss.
If you run into them, you’ll always lose at least 3-4 and escape with 1-2 maximum, even if you IMMEDIATLY pull them out.
In aoe4 you just knock 2 spears out in a charge and run before they can hit you, 15 seconds later do same thing again.

The defender has to invest big ressources into a unit, which is ONLY decent against cav and can basically not use it for anything else (dead ressources) and even then is not save for a raid because royal knights 2 shot vills and can snipe pikes with ease.
The knights at the same time beat archers, horsemen, men at arms, villagers (!!!) and crush siege weapons.

The game lacks choice here, when facing french, rus or mongols.
Having to play against one of these 3 dictates a certain playstyle from minute 4/5 on, which is frustrating and boring.

Let’s compare it to aoe3:
The french (especially in 1v1) would usually (not always, some also go for other units) open huss (heavy melee cav) and the enemy has to respond.
He could either react with pikemen (hardcounter), muskets (hardcounter) or make just make hussairs on his own and fight equally. The hussair counterplay opens so many strategies…
And the musks would again counter any unit except of archers or skirmishers or falcs.
What option do you have in aoe4? Spearmen, which seem quite useless…
The pikes in aoe3 are, on top of that, also quite fast moving, faster than other infantry, which allows to cut the cav’s way and then SNARE them.
They can still be outrun by cav, but once you catch them, the cav is screwed.
I’m missing these mechanics in aoe4. It feels quite frustrating to deal with cav here.

Also:
More expensive units should receive more siege damage, whereas right now it only depends on the age, which is quite frustrating.

Yep, AOE4 don’t have enough micro xD
The only significant micro I know in AOEIV is “Run in and Run out”

for anyone saying relic cannot push the classic camera in particular further back, here’s the proof how much of a lie that really is, imo panoramic was them attempting to dodge the zoom criticism by using the curve zoom out to in a sense cap it because: “due to technical reasons of how the camera system is implemented pushing zoom further back than current panoramic would make the angle too vertical and hurt playability”, now this excuse hasn’t appeared yet, but having seen the handling of zoom back in betas, i certainly expect to see it at some point
source: season 3 live stream

Who is saying this?

Do you seriously believe that Relic are holding onto this magical ability, and have been ever since S3? Or perhaps there might be other reasons why this zoom was only seen here and not since?
