What would we like to see for aoe2 in 2026?

  • Different helmet
  • Massive piece of barding on the front of the horse
  • More armour on the arms and legs

i had never noticed the barding on the horse, but that is pretty major I’ve got to admit. the others are too small to notice at a glance

If Burmese, Khmer, and Malay get their CA removed, then they’ll most certainly receive the Elephant Archer unit.

I hate that barding armor on the horse, it’s too big. But I love the wingless Hussar.

Reading this, I wonder whether the issue is with the unit itself for those civs, or just with the unit’s skin.

If it’s the latter, I’d suggest requesting regional skins for the generic Imperil units (at least); like HCA.

With no barding armour, longer sword and larger plume.

I had two random ideas today:
Scenario editor version of throwing axeman with actual franciska axes

And a map based on the Little Ice Age (no, I have no idea how it could work or what it should look like)

Maybe they could get caparisons?

Edit: Also, petition to rename Xolotl to something that includes Cahuallo or Mazatl

Mounted Samurai

Archer of the Eyes

They were Nubian, right? Is this model actually based on Nubian clothes?

Also, if Mounted Samurais get a unique model, I hope it’s actually unique model, not the pre-existing Samurai model on top of a horse (nothing against it, I just want them to be visually different).

Are those heroes in AOE2? Haven’t played all of the campaigns.

Mounted Samurai are in Kurikara and I think Shimazu, Archers of the Eyes are in the last Saladin scenario.

Archers of the Eyes

CampaignIcon-BarbarossaDE Barbarossa

CampaignIcon-SaladinDE Saladin

  • The Siege of Jerusalem: Saladin’s forces start out with several Archers of the Eyes among them.

  • The Lion and the Demon: There are some Archers of the Eyes in the Acre garrison. In the co-op version, player A starts with some Archers of the Eyes.

CampaignIcon-BariDE Bari

  • Arrival at Bari: In the HD Edition, The Emir of Bari has several Archers of the Eyes as his personal bodyguards.

CampaignIcon-PrithvirajDE Prithviraj

  • A Promising Warrior: Sanyogita’s Champion is a renamed Archer of the Eye. Prithviraj has to defeat him if he goes to meet with the guru.

CampaignIcon-YoditDE Yodit

  • The Right Partner: Archers of the Eyes are part of Beja raider groups that attack Yodit’s harbor base. In addition, the Nobatia city to the west has a number of them stationed near its Castle and can train them

Worst part is there are multiple east asian hero skins now but this unit is completely forgotten.

The barding looked good imo

While I like both versions, but yeah removing the barding makes the unit too similar to the Light Cavalry. To avoid visual confusion, we would need to implement other noticeable modifications.

I recently discovered that the Mamluk camel design isn’t entirely wrong.

There is a hybrid breed of Bactrian camel and Arabian dromedary called TĂŒlu/Bukht/Turkoman or simply F1 (for “first filial generation”). This breed is larger, stronger, and more resilient than both; it has a single elongated hump instead of two or one small one; it’s a middle ground in terms of coat compared to the others; and it has been used since Roman times in the Middle East, Turkey, and Persia—unsurprisingly, precisely the region where it’s possible to crossbreed the two species.

The post itself (read text) says F1 Camel are in Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, Turkey. While F2 Bactrians Camel are in Kazakhstan only.

Using hairy, heavier Bactrian breed/crossbreed in hot desert of Egypt will kill the camel.

Today. In the Middle Ages, the climate was cooler and they were spread over a larger area. But, yes, you are correct that, despite being resistant, this hybrid and the Bactrian camel thrive in the cold, while the dromedary thrives in the heat.

So to clarify: these hybrids did not completely replace the other two types, since they do not produce equally useful offspring. Thus, the three types coexisted in the regions I mentioned, with the Bactrian camel still dominating Central Asia and the dromedary dominating Africa and Arabia. Since the Mamluks are imported Turks, I think it wouldn’t be too wrong for them to have that camel.
