What would you like to see in Myth Retold?

Yes, it’s quite a topic…sometimes I have to organize myself to do game events by streaming for up to 12 hours with a break in between…

Yes, anything can be…should they be influenced by Disney’s Atlantis movie?..

Yes, I pass the Arkantos campaign with cheats until mission 21 (North), from there until the end I did pass it properly (more because I had left it in 2019 and returned last year to finish it xd)…

I remember using the resource cheat to create many units and I think the power-up cheat too…

you are right in that regard i think. well in my personal opinion. but atlanteans really need an overhaul. similar to chinese. i think. but lets wait what news we get.

Yes, I don’t think the Atlanteans will improve them even more… but the Chinese will, they will do a total rework…

Most AoE3 civs got a pretty decent rework by now so let’s hope they’ll put the same kind of love into AoM too.

Yes, you have to be calm with that…with the 3 DE they gained a lot of experience balancing civs and that AoE 3 DE is difficult to balance…

I am not sure I understood your response correctly I am sorry.

I personally still think every race will get an overhaul from slightly to more drastic.

I also think that Chinese will get the biggest complete overhaul from gods, godpowers, units, economy, buildings you name it.
After that Atlanteans will get the second biggest overhaul I personally think we see some changes in units and gods here.
For the three others I just think they switch some things around and overhaul the look of of most units. And of course overhaul godpowers and add new favour mechanics. For everyone except maybe Greek and maybe Norse.

That’s my personally opinion.

Of course, of course it will be like that…

We usually call them civilization, civ or culture, not race.

Yeah mate I am sorry. I just don’t use that much english in my daily life and when I want to write something I do it without looking every word up normally. And sometimes I forget specific words like this one but I think ppl still understand what I am about to say/what I mean. I mean you understood me too and there are ppl who write way less specific/more worse than I do. But I understand that you feel concerned about my wording. Civ really fits much better. I will try to remember the correct terms.

Sorry if I sounded mad or something, it’s just using “race” to refer to entire cultures is kinda weird

By the way, I’ve been told some people use culture instead of civ in AoM’s case since here major gods are closer to what civs are in other games.

I was thinking that it will be great to have more unique characteristics for example;

Insted of choosing between two minor gods, have the option to choose between three minor gods.

Greeks

Playing as the greeks let you choose one of the three great states, if you choose:

Sparta it gives you the option to train spartans that are infantry with a great defense and a lot of damage, better against every human unit and some technologies to improve the infantry.

Athenas it give you the oportunity to build different building that have unique and powerfull technologies focus on a more defensive point of view.

Macedonia it gives you the option to train alexander the great that improves your armies and to train a variety of human units like the macedonian phalanx with a melee attack with more range.

Norse

You can build a bifrost building that lets you recruit unique units depending of the realm you choose and every realm has three tiers, every time you advance to the next age you can choose a tier of the realms, for example if you advance to the 2 age you can choose the tier 1 of every realm, when you advance to the 3 age you can choose the tier 2 of every realm and so on, so in the end you can have helheim tier1-jotunheim tier 2 and svartalfaheim tier 3, so you can make a lot of combinations.

The realms can be the next ones:

Helheim tier 1.- Every unit that dies has a chance to return as skeleton warrios.
Helheim tier 2.- You can train skeleton archer or warriors with faith, this skeletons are weaker that other myth units but they cost a little of faith.
Helheim tier 3.- You can train Garm a very powerfull mythological beast inmune to instant kill.

Svartafalheim tier 1.- You can train dwarve warriors that can build siege weapons.
Svartafalheim tier 2.- You unlock powerfull dwarven siege weapons.
Svartafalheim tier 3.- You unlock unique weapon technologies that lets the human units deal extra damage to myth units.

Alfheim tier 1.- Let you build elven tree houses that lets you train elven archers that are fastest than normal archers.
Alfheim tier 2.- Every building that you have gain the ability to shoot arrows.
Alfheim tier 3.- Gives you an army of elven warriors and alven archers that are fastest than the normal units.

Vanaheim tier 1.- Every 2 minutes grows a farm around the settlement.
Vanaheim tier 2.- Improves the gather rate of all your villagers and dwarves.
Vanaheim tier 3.- You can build a unique shine that has three powers each power cost faith to use, one let you spawn a forest, another spawns 10 animals and the other spawns a gold mine.

Egypt

You can build the keops pyramid and from there you unlock three global powers each power costs faith and have a cooldown to choose again but the time it lasts depends on the age.

Gold tribute to earn eternal life.- With this power every unit that you kill and every own unit that dies return a little amount of gold depending of its gold cost.

Virtue tribute to earn eternal life.- With this power all your villagers improve the gather rate, all your buildings reduce the training time and investigation time and all your buildings are built faster.

Glory tribute to earn eternal life.- With this power your army gains a boost in speed, attack and defense.

You can also build the kefrén pyramid that unlocks new mythic units like the sand golem.

You can also build the micerino pyramid that generates a field inmune to god powers and it also improves the faith that the monuments gather.

Atlanteans

You can build buildings over the sea and connect them by bridges and plataforms.
I was also thinking that maybe they can train human units and myth units for mesoamerica, india and egypt.

Chinese

I will wait to see what they do to them in retold.

What does every one of you think about this concept.

What if I already want to have an army full of spartans, macedonians, and athens units?

Why do we need to keep separating things when we don’t really need to?

One of my biggest wishes is to be able to utilize all mythical units in 1 game but I understand that it may break the core gameplay.

Yes, race sounds very Warcraft and Starcraft (medieval fantasy and sci fi), in AoE everyone is the same race (human of course, in Mythology it can vary for the Myth units)…

I know I know my bad xD race kinda stuck more easily in my head. I totally agree here with you guys that civ or even culture fits way better. But thanks for explaining where my head stuck came from maybe i played too many games with aliens and stuff I don’t know. But I don’t think it’s a big problem cause everyone knows what I or others by that mean. But again I an normally not too crazy bad at writing english but I tend to forget words. i don’t think that’s uncommon.

Anyway can we get back to the topic now please? Thank you.

I wonder if the devs actually listened to all the fantastic ideas in this thread.

I hope that AoE3DE does not stop receiving support, but I wouldn’t be surprised if working with the same graphics engine in AoM Retold, they put more effort and support into this new project, and I hope that this whole thread serves to create a lot of new content for this new title , new civs, campaigns, game modes, dlcs

Great job today World’s Edge & entire AOE team! Been a player since RoR but AoM has my .

A few things I’d outline for a successful launch & the long-term.

  • Stay pretty faithful to existing civs for the current/returning player base. Experiment with the new stuff.
  • At least one new Civ (more on that later)
  • Run far from the AoE4 aesthetic
  • Balloon pop-caps in a big way, remove building caps as much as possible & use other means to discourage building #s when necessary. (sometimes we like to just go crazy & have fun).

ANCIENT ISRAELITES! - My Civ suggestion
No civ in my opinion would create more buzz & curiosity/universal familiarty than them.

Everything’s there from cool god powers (think plagues in Egypt), heroes, myth units like Nephilim (giants), Cherubim, cockatrice, behemoths, dragons, unicorns, demons, & the list goes on.

How to handle a monotheistic religion? Easy.

  • Both Israelites, Zoroastrians, have angelic beings that are named & associated with certain traits/characteristics if you want to simply slide them into existing civ models (Major/minor gods)

  • You can also take the III & moreso IV approach with a completely different play style/sandbox (think Mongolians AoE4. )

    • One god but different emphasis (after they split, Judah & Israel both worshipped the same God but different attributes & ways of worship. i.e Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, Shaddai, etc.

Do I even begin to talk about the Temples? I’m sure someone more familiar than I could dig even deeper.

Sure it’s a still-practiced religion, but so is the Norse & I guess Greeks now, by a growing # of the population. It can be done tastefully & yet fit well into the ecosystem.

The Persian mythology was once a polytheistic religion if I recalled correctly.

It will not stop receiving support, in fact now it will be easier because both games use the same engine…whatever they put in AoE 3 DE later they can put in Retold and viceversa…

The same thing, I don’t know if they will include monotheistic mythologies…

Yes, Persia, Babylon, India, Jomon/Yamato/Sengoku Japan, Celts, Slavs, Aztecs, Incas, Mayans, Yoruba… all of those can enter and you have dlcs for years… 2 mythologies a year would be incredible…
