Yes, stop getting complicated with the zoom issue… Retold is going to have the types of zoom you want…
Oh, very nice! That’s great they did that. I must have bought before it got patched, or Steam’s version didn’t auto-patch to that. (Or I just failed to find it in the game’s Settings )
As an AoE2:DE player who loves the zoom there, it’s hard not to worry about the zoom. Considering AoE4, and classic AoE3 until it got patched
Yes, don’t worry, you will have super zoom in Retold and even ray tracing, something that 3 DE doesn’t have (yet)… if Retold comes out with a very close zoom, people will criticize them, that’s why they will put different types of zoom, the classic one more close and the super zoom far away, which you can adjust with the mouse…
If new elements are added, I’m looking forward to seeing what they will be like and how they will be added. So far, I haven’t seen any major changes, but personally, I’d like to see something new and substantial added to the existing Civs through later updates, like 3DE. For example, new Minor Gods or new Mythic Units or something.
I pretty much agree with @Darkness01101 here.
I own AoE2:DE. And I pretty much play mostly in zoom out view. I imagine if AoM:R has as much zoom out as AoE2:DE, it will really makes you feel like you are one of the gods and you are overseeing your army like a true general.
AoEIV, to me, feels extremely cluttered and locked in. It’s like a feeling of suffocation and you are constantly being chained up and yearning for an escape. I haven’t played AoEIV in years but last time I heard they still haven’t given the fans what they wanted since day 1 release. That is a zoom out view.
This is a great point
Yep, AoE4 is just nearly unplayable to me. It’s constant pressure in my head. I kind of feel that it may eventually become a form of gaming Accessibility issue that more and more people will eventually notice in themselves and that has yet to be clinically noticed or defined
I feel the same when playing FPS games on PC that have a horrible field of view of like 75 that can’t be increased to like 100 or 105. (Fallout 4 comes to mind, or loading up a retro FPS game for the first time and it’s in 640x480 or 800x600 resolution mode.) The view is just too constricting, like you’re face is 6" from the screen the entire time and can never move back. Maybe it was once okay in 1999?, not sure, but not anymore
In another thread, I said AoE4’s zoom creates artificial tension for me that I don’t personally care for or agree with. Playing an entire match is just constant pressure, frustration, flustering, and fumbling around because of the zoom, which I experienced in the Tech Stress test. I should be feeling pressure from the gameplay, itself (econ, military, techs, battles, exploration), not from a camera zoom that forces me to feel like I’m treading water for an hour.
The zoom issue was never really addressed in AoE4 as far as I know. They did update it at least once (and I think only once?), but I remember someone here posted a video that showed the difference and commented on how very trivial the difference was, but can’t find it now.
I did find this vid about zoom, though: AOE4 | Age of Empires 4: Camera Modes (Classic vs Panoramic) by Chertograad, where they show Classic vs. Panormic cam. (I think this reflects the only zoom change they’ve made? Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.)
It’s a tiny bit better in Panoramic, but not nearly enough, I’m afraid.
Another issue posed by others regarding zoom was their carpal tunnel hurt after playing the game for 1-2 hours, and they “literally physically cannot play the game with so much need to move the mouse so far all the time to keep panning around.” I also greatly dislike panning and clicking all around for no good reason. Poor usability should not be mistaken as a fun gameplay feature that should be retained. (In other words, I don’t consider clicking and panning around as inherently “fun” things to do I stopped enjoying clanging kitchen pan lids together when I was four or five, lol! Actually, I never did that, but that’s what it seems like the devs might mistake AoE4 clicking and panning around for, so wanted to mention in case they were mistaken)
Yes, forget about it… they can use improvements from the expanded mod and about new mythologies, Ensemble Studios had put in the game code (as a joke in theory) that perhaps the Babylonians or the Sumerians could come (most likely they were the Babylonians because there is more information about them and in itself, Babylonian mythology was the same as that of the Sumerians)…
Of course, that’s true… it would have to be called “zoom of God” and the icon instead of an arrow would have to be a divine hand like in Black and White…
Yes, I pass the AoE 4 campaigns with the normal zoom and I didn’t give much importance to the zoom, but it is true that more zoom wouldn’t hurt either…
i understand some ppl here want more zoom out. it makes sense.
i also like zoom out for many games and most games (like rpgs) doesn’t provide that really.
in AoM i am used to that zoom personally and no i don’t get sick or feel stuck like others here. i get immersed and i love immersion.
i saw someone on youtube playing AoM with a far away, some call it here “god zoom”. i personally thought i am playing with toys and not units/buildings. too unpersonal for me.
but i understand still some really like that. but competitve wise this would give an unfair advantage. so i bet if they will do it as an option (as some said here for certain which i support) then it will come only for normal games.
my take on this interesting topic.
Why shouldn’t it just be the same way it is in AoE3DE and AoE2DE or even AoMEE?
It’s only AoE4 that is limited to such a close camera.
You could also argue for enforcing a 60FPS limit because some people don’t have 120+Hz monitors or stuff like that.
AoE3DE is limited to 144FPS which is a little annoying.
Please ADD ROOM RATING LIMITS
also optional ROOM DESCRIPTIONS if possible
This would enhance online hosting/games significantly.
Add back original features like WHISPERING from outside the room.
You mean ELO limits for lobbies?
Yes, most likely the zoom will be like in AoE 3 DE and we are arguing in nothing…
Yes.

Some new age up choices added to existing ones. There are Gods, Goddesses and Titans from Pantheons not used so I would like seeing them.
A 3rd Age up option for each Age would be pretty cool.
It would allow them to add 1-3 new Minor gods and new Myth Units for each of the 3 age ups.
I think that would be more interesting then adding a 4th Major God because then you get more variety in every match, not just when you choose the new Major God in the lobby.
Reminds me of the civilization editor in Empire Earth where you can build custom civs by choosing civ bonusses.
don’t worry guys like me already suggested this over a year ago. and not only by writing it but also with ideas and recommendations. i made explicit ideas for new minor and new major gods which could easily work/fit well.
i really support this hole thing cause it would make things refreshing and more interesting without making ground-breaking overhauls which would cause major balance issues or would be too drastic like settlements. it would be a nice and enriching change for the game.
but i personally think if we add a minor god per age we also need to add one major god to make things as equal as possible. at least in my opinion. and it would be doable. there are enough gods and creatures.
i would like to have an AI who can build walls. My biggest fear is we only get this ‘‘DE unit spam efficient but not immersive’’ AI we know from the other aoe remasters. Don’t get me wrong, i’m sure this kind of AI has its reason for being but casual PvE players like me and my friends really want to siege cities.
Yes, that would be good…giving more minor gods to the major gods…instead of advancing with 6 possible gods, there would be 9 possible gods…
Of course, of course… in fact, this is how the AoE 3 and 4 custom civs are built…
Yes, a major god or several minor gods are valid options…
Try AoMod AI or other better ai mods. They all build walls
