What would you like to see in Myth Retold?

It goes in that direction. But it should be something original.
Not literally make them Tolkien-Numenorians, but create a new, original Atlantean culture, in a similar way as Tolkien created the Numenorians.

Yes, that would be good, but otherwise Demeter would lose some of its charm…

Yes, Amun would be more focused on Kush with several units and even Kushite architecture…

I’d go with the Tartessians; after all, they’re an Atlantic civilization, and Atlantis in the AoMR lore is right next to the Iberian Peninsula…

Tartessos (Ancient Greek: Τάρτησσος Tártēssos; Latin: Tartessus), Tartessos, or Tartesia[1] is the name by which the Greeks knew one of the oldest civilizations of which they had knowledge. A possible successor to the Late Atlantic Bronze Age, it developed in the triangle formed by the present-day provinces of Huelva, Seville, and Cádiz, and later in the province of Badajoz,[2][3] in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula during the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age. Its beginnings date back to around the 9th century BC, extending until the 5th century BC. It is presumed that its center was the Tartessos River, which may have been the river the Romans later called the Betis (Guadalquivir). However, some authors place its origin at the confluence of the Odiel and Tinto rivers (Huelva), since significant remains are known to lie buried beneath the city of Huelva itself. The heart of the country has also been placed around the Barbate River (Porlan, 2015).

Tartessos influenced the inland regions and the Portuguese Algarve. The Tartessians presumably developed a language and writing system distinct from those of neighboring peoples and, in their final phase, were influenced by Egyptian and Phoenician cultures.

The first historical source that mentions Tartessos is found in the work of Hecataeus, in the 6th century BC, who was considered by ancient authors to be a logographer, a term used to describe historians before the time of Herodotus and Thucydides. Hecataeus mentions several Tartessian cities, while Herodotus (the next relevant source) speaks of King Argantonius (believed to mean “The Man” or “Lord of Silver”) who reigned for over 100 years and of his immeasurable wealth, wisdom, and generosity. A later source dates from the 4th century AD, from the Roman writer Rufus Festus Avienus, who wrote a work entitled Ora Maritima, a poem describing the Mediterranean coasts, based on older texts (probably from the 6th century BC). Avienus described it as a “periplus,” that is, a coastal voyage undertaken by a Greek or Carthaginian mariner, in which, departing from the coasts of Britain or Cornwall (England), he reached Massalia (modern-day Marseille). As a result of that voyage, accounts were given of the places visited by the unknown mariner, providing the oldest information about the Iberian Peninsula and mentioning, among others, “the city of Gadir, formerly called Tartessos.”[4] The Ephor of Cyme stated that the journey from Cádiz to Tartessos took half a day.[5]

Their demonym is Tartessian.[1]

Perhaps Atlanteans with a more Egyptian style, or with a Greek or even Phoenician mix?…

Theres some issues with implementing this imo.

Besids the greek lore, nothing else makes sense for it to make that change.

For a gameplay perspective, Artemis kit fits hades a lot more, seeing the whole archer dynamic.
From a game design perspective, giving free content to people that didnt buy the DLC might seem an issue, and creating 2 profiles of hades, one version for people that have the DLC and for those that dont sounds equally problematic just to please some lore reason that AoM has never deeply cared for at all

Same reason as above

I often see this 2 as the most common ones proposed and for atty nyx, lets see which one is chosen and lets hope all civs get a 4th god.

Tartessians as a source of inspiration, I assume. Not a straight up one to one copy of Tartessos.
But under that premesis, I agree. Tartessos would be a great source of inspiration. Not as easily recognizeable as Romans and Incas.
I’d also like to add Guanches as a possible reference. They are the now extinct indigenous inhabitants of the canary islands.
Again, not to mean to copy the Guanches outright, but incorporate aspects of them into the new Atlantean design.

All true.

But I also would like to see each major god have one minor god that is unique to them. Like Zeus had Hera, but now they added Hera to Demeter as well…

In a lot of Egyptian mythology lore, Amun is usually considered the king of the gods, not Ra. So yes would be interesting to see who they add. They could also suprise us and promote Osiris to major god, as he is also sometimes seen as one of the chief gods.

Yes, exactly… let’s say the Tartessians served as inspiration for Plato’s Atlanteans… they could take some elements from them for a possible Atlantean rework, or when they introduce a new major Atlantean god, or even better, when they introduce the Incas or the Celts between this year and next… we could even see a Balearic slinger (either for the Atlanteans or the Celts; in AoE Online the Romans have Balearic slingers as auxiliary troops, so they would be a better fit for the Atlanteans)…

Zeus needs a new statue design. I like this one:

no thanks. I prefer the one we already have

Amun was often considered synonymous with Ra, so I don’t think that would be good. I also don’t think every civ needs a fourth major god.

I would love alternative statues! Might be a good next community event… HINT HINT :winking_face_with_tongue:

Keeps the game interesting for them to add new major gods

Amun was merged with Ra into Amun-Ra, being a single diety.
Similar to how norse godesses Freja and Frigg are often being equated to one another or mistaken for each other in modern pop culture, most notably in the God of War games, when they were regarded as two clearly different and distinct godesses by the actual norse people.
Even Age of Mythology sort of combines the two by giving Freja access to Valkyries, which are the daughters of Frigg.

Amun and Ra were clearly distinct and separate dieties in earlier versions of the myths, all the way until the lifetime of Alexander the Great.
Under Ptolemeian rule, the mythology was continued, but the dieties merged into Amun-Ra, which was what Cleopatra knew. Not on purpose. It was a gradual shift over time.
This is why I believe Amun as a major god separate from Ra can work.

It could, I just don’t know that it would be very interesting or necessary.

Freyja and Frigg may have actually originated as one goddess called Freyja Frigg (Freyja just means “lady”), and even after the split, Freyja was associated with valkyries more than Frigg. She may even have been counted among the valkyries. I have no idea where you’re getting that they were daughters of Frigg. The valkyries weren’t sisters.

New civs are more interesting than adding to existing ones.

I would like to see more (optional) victory conditions for Supremacy games or game modes. I’ve been playing a lot of Supremacy games lately and there doesn’t seems to be much of a difference between them and Conquest games. I think Devs should add more win conditions.

These are just my thoughts and I’m unsure on how it would be balanced in practice.

-Wonder Victory: Bring back Wonder victories! I like the new mechanics with wonders but I miss the fun of trying to destroy the enemy’s Wonder before the timer runs out. Sometimes conquest victories are too time consuming, especially on very big maps. Have the timer last 10-15 minuets.

-Titan Victories: Have a global counter on the side of the screen like you would with a timer, but instead of counting down it, it would be counting up. To get this victory players need to have a (one) Titian do X amount of total damage to win, with a counter counting the percentage until player victory. I can already see how players could cheese their way into getting this victory quickly so the total damage condition would have to be very high. Players would have to play more defensively as their Titian’s HP is twiddled down and plan around having a Titian around for longer than usual taking a large population amount.

-Golden Fleece: (This would probably be better as it’s own game mode, with a few changes). A random number of gold glowing Goats (depending on the amount of players) spawn on the map. The player with the most Goats after 10-20 minutes wins (finding a goat starts the timer). This game is basically like king of the Hill mixed with hide and seek. Goats are either immortal or have an HP bonus and drop x2-x5 the meat a normal goat would when fattened. (If a player has one Goat and there are a dozen on the map, but no one has found any yet, then the count down timer starts for them until someone takes that Goat or has more).

A real Ranked mode instead of the Beta we’ve had

An option to disable Wonder Age in games
