For those who are wondering why we have not gotten news about new god portraits… the pantheon pinups were meant to be a year long event that started on May 1 last year and ended on May 1 this year.
Maybe this thread can give the devs some ideas to keep them busy? So what would you like to see them work on aside from new DLC and the usual bug fixes?
As for the topic itself… I would like to see the devs work on the god models in the game. It always felt strange to me that a game called Age of Mythology never really gave players the chance to play as them. Obsidian Mirror went beyond my expectations though and I have to give them credit for that. It could be useful for modders and for the game overall in the long run. Who knows? Maybe the developers could introduce a new game mode where the gods themselves are the main focus.
Either way, I think the gods should have some limits on their height and size. I can understand why there are differences right now due to campaign constraints but if a new mode ever centers around the gods… then some consistency would help so they all feel playable without looking too silly or exaggerated.
Other than that, I would also like to see the devs revisit the vanilla civs and improve their aesthetics. The newer civs feel more grand and more in line with modern expectations while the older ones feel a bit dated. For example → I think the Egyptians could use a redesign in some areas especially their scarabs. If you look up Egyptian scarabs, they often have beautiful feathered wings and gold ornamentation. Why not upgrade the current design with something like that? Maybe even give it a dung ball or sun disk to roll and slam into buildings for extra impact.
War turtles.? Same issue. Right now it just looks like an oversized turtle. It would be great to see more Egyptian influence in its design, symbols, armor, something that makes it feel more distinct and intimidating. So not just myth units but everything else including human units and architectures.
Lastly, I think the vanilla civs could use an audio update. The Chinese, Japanese, and the Aztecs all have unique war cries, death sounds, and even weapon sounds… and it adds a lot of personality. I would love to see the original civs get the same treatment so they do not feel left behind as the newer ones get more polish.

I would like to add Statues of the every minor gods you choose to age up around your temple and/or urban center.
I want to see more host options for multiplayer games, game modes, and make it easier for others to join modded lobbies.
I want them to only do bug fixes.

Personally, I would like them to finally address some animation and sound errors that have been in the game since launch. If we’re talking additional changes/content/fixes, fixing/re-enabling sound modding would be nice, since at the moment, replacing sounds is almost impossible, especially shared ones, since the game always defaults to using the .bank archives, which we can’t edit.
Having more god units would be really cool.
But first they should give everyone a unique titan. We already have Gaia and Kronos as unit models why not use them as skins for the Titan ingame too?
Having unique Titans for all Major Gods would be really cool and I think it should be doable. I think that would also be something they could advertise pretty well.
On top of that it would be cool if every Titan had a unique ability instead of all just hitting the ground. Nothing super strong but something to add flavour.
- Gaia could have a small patch or Lush around her that heals allies.
- Kronos could deconstruct enemy buildings refunding the resources but destroying them faster then other Titans
- Oranos could be a walking Sky Passage that allows ungarrisoning units around him
- Hades Titan could make the Shades spawn on him instead of the first Temple
- Poseidons Titan could make units move faster around him
- Zeus Titan could have a lightning attack
- Thors Titan could stun units
Just some ideas. Not to improve the overall strength of the Titans but add some unique flavour to them.
Making them part of the Temple model would make a lot of sense tbh. It would add a lot of flavour to your age up choices.
Around the Town Centre might feel too cluttered.
Also having them as statues in the editor would be really cool. That would allow to involve them in stories. But of course having actual units for them would be even cooler. I really just want more “Skadi” in the game tbh.
Better custom scenario management for multiplayer would be really cool.
Allow us to close slots or make slots that can be AI or human. So many maps are uploaded with multiple different player numbers just because you can’t adjust it.
Also allow us to enforce specific Major Gods or just Pantheons for specific slots, or optionally let players freely choose.
Also please let us use the build in AI personalities in the editor. Writing your own AI scripts is very complicated and the build in ones are often good enough.
