Hello, first of all, i’m a new player of AoE2. I thought of playing AoE1 but since AoE2 has RoR DLC, i just bought that instead. I played some campaigns of the base game, then went to the AoE1 campaigns that were porteded to RoR. Some people say that the AoE1 campaigns aren’t mutch engaging, but i found myself having so mutch fun with them. But i haven’t played the new RoR exclusive campaigns yet.
But anyway, i noticed that aren’t all of the AoE1 campaigns that are present in RoR. Is there any specific reason for that? I thought of playing AoE1 but i know there are QoL aspects that are improved on RoR. I don’t know what players of AoE1 think of that, but i really wish to play the AoE1 campaigns on AoE2 engine. Let’s face it, the reason they did not port all the campaigns was money.
Imo, they should have just gave the same treatment to AoE1 that they gave AoE2. I really wish that. I love the theme of ancient civs that are in AoE1. I would defnetly buy DLCs for new campaigns to the civs that don’t have it.
I don’t think the AoE2 playerbase care about these since it’s not the time period the game takes on. But i ask for the AoE1 enjoyers, what’s your opnion on that? Do you think AoE1 should get DLCs? Updated engine? Do you think Return of Rome is what AoE1 should have been in the first place? Do you think the AoE2 Chronicles DLC should have been part of AoE1 instead?

Yes I would have liked if they kept adding civs and campaigns to aoe1 alongside aoe2 specially cause one game has a lot of them while the others is pretty barren.
I think under many aspects aoe1 is obsolete so yes they should implement a few changes while not making it identical to aoe2 (like chronicles is). For example you could do without forts maybe but unique units I feel are necessary.
Old campaigns should be ported if only for a matter of completion but I think eventually every civ should have got its campaign in the new style with slides, dialogues etc. Again old scenarios are outdated, if you look at the Babylonian campaign it is incredibly abstract, gimmicky, more like a puzzle for a 2000s flip phone game at best rather than a representation of the civ or a plot.
I had in mind for a while to make a Palmyran campaign for Ror, one of the few you can sort of realistically make with the few existing assets but I’m a bit concerned since it would take a lot of time and the game has almost no players so not sure I’ll proceed.
But yes it’s just a damn shame this team is so erratic in their behaviour, trying to make surprises and always reinvent the wheel instead of stick to a vision.

Yes, that’s the reason i wanted them to port the remaining campaigns from AoE1 to RoR. Like i said, i didn’t play AoE1, but i really enjoyed the current AoE1 campaigns in RoR, even if they’re not the same with the narrative like the new ones.
And yes, it’s really weird as almost every current AoE2 civ has its own campaign or scene but just a few of the AoE1 civs has theirs, even after a so called Definitive edition.
