When playing AoE DE II, my Surface Book 2 severely overheats and rapidly uses battery life

Issue:

Whenever I start playing AOE II DE, I’ll start to feel the keyboard base of my Surface Book 2 heat up and remains hot and drains the battery. The GPU for the Surface Book is in the keyboard so perhaps it is being over utilized.

Reproduction Steps:

  1. Start AOE II DE on a Surface Book 2
  2. Play the game

How many FPS? Have you tried enabling vsync? so the FPS match your screen frequency and make your GPU work less

Hi where is vsync configured? I don’t know what my FPS frame rate is.

V-sync is configured under graphics options. You can display FPS in game by pressing F11 couple of times.

You can more precisely limit your FPS using RTSS. I limit FPS using it in order to decrease temperature and it works very well.

OK thanks, so I just toggle V-sync to be checked? And what is RTSS?

Turns out that even with v-sync enabled. I burned through my fully charged battery in just about an hour so that didn’t seem to mitigate the GPU overheating.
