Where does the game stand? Retold about to be abandon

So where does the game stand now? are people still playing it? will the dev continue to support it?

What’s the chance the dev will make major changes in the game to make it more similar to TT?
Before graphics, before balance, etc the game as to be fun to play…this is something Retold lacks.

TT was a winning formula, even with EE’s insane lag, people continued to play it because it was fun. With TT, gp’s were a game changer, even if you were down, you can still use a gp wisely and make a comeback, this is one of the reason why TT was so fun and this is something Retold lacks.

If you guys remember with AoEo, when the game was about to be abandon, the dev tried to make major changes hoping people will return, they ended up making Championship mode. Which had all the gimmicks removed just pure rts but I guess it was too late. Retold dev should start thinking about what changes to make now.

They still have another new pantheon they will have to make from a expansion for fulfillment for those that purchased the Premium Edition

About to lose support, Microsoft did not give a lot of money to the studio to develop, devs did what they could, thats why graphics look weird and it did not click with people, they will release another dlc and just keep the servers, like aoe3. They will thank fans for the support and say about how happy to release the game 20 years later, public speaking, etc etc etc.

People are still playing it. Balance updates are still going frequently. Being fun/unfun is more of a subjective thing i would say. For me, i find retold more enjoyable but i understand others feeling on the contrary.

One could argue Retold´s God powers are more game winning than ever (overall) on TT, which is why they had been nerfed over some patches. Its funny you say this because it shows the subjectiveness of each person, theres a discussion post with the other take, people liking TT more because it wasent just about recasting and winning with only GPs (except ragnrok) and more about small fights with army and more strategic decisions.

“One could argue Retold´s God powers are more game winning than ever (overall) on TT”

Was listen to Magic stream yesterday and he said before they started working on the game, the dev specially pointed out that they didn’t want gp’s to win games (game changers). This is true because they’re recastable now. If they were strong like in TT, the game would have been over the first time it was used, no point in getting a second one.

This is what I don’t get, why are the dev so hardheaded, they should abandon what their goal was and try to mimic the original game.

Since you are quoting magic, you should check his balance videos on youtube. He has been vocal about current retold being rushing mythic and winning due to their strengh, no recast, no cooldowns, just 2 clicks and GGs unlike in titans where it was more about strategy.

If we are talking current patch then you could may have a point, but pre nerf implode, tsunami, fiery prarie, fei beasts, flaming weapons have a way stronger impact than any god power not named ragnarok in AoT.

I know at least 5 players “waiting” for next patch and I know some that are willing to comeback, but still need to solve some “technical” limitations ( bad computer / laptop ).

Game is amazing, AoM fanbase will always check the balance and bug state to come play again. Sadly, many “competitive” players leave each time they comeback and get abused by braindead things like Qinglong or Sphinx spam.

Game is sadly dying at the moment. The player base is very small, the recently introduced community event saw less than half as many players participating than the developers anticipating.

Personally I think the main issue is that the strength of GPs vary too much. Some are so strong you rush to Age 3 / Age 4 just to use them once and win the game, others are so weak you use them once or twice in the early game and then never again.

The devs have one last chance with the next expansion to double or triple the player base long-term, but if that does not succeed I doubt the game will receive any meaningful new content after that.

My PC died, I’m using a Chromebox right now to play AOM. If you have a decent internet connection, Geoforce now (highest tier) for $20/month works amazingly well, I can’t tell the different from a local session, I highly highly recommend it if you don’t have a capable PC. Note that mouse + keyboard does NOT work on IOS devices with Geoforce now, but works on other devices. Or, you can get a used Xbox series S for $150-200 on Amazon to play retold with mouse + keyboard support, it also has Microsoft edge so you can theoretically use it like a gaming capable Chromebox!

So funny to read new threads like this, aom is anything but a failure but haters always have to come and spit on the forum :joy: there are daily updates, expansions in the works, an active fan base but no the game is dead, it’s sinking !!!. It’s the titanic save yourself

GoldenAxe, Retold is amazing and I am not sure you have any credibility left after you complained about not being able to spam only hersir and win as Loki anymore. Also EE was dead with global chat having only like 10 players 21 hours a day past 2 years outside weekends.

Godpowers are still insanely impactful.

There is nothing to complain about Retold. New Chinese pantheon is great and we will be getting 1 more pantheon, which is amazing. It is hard to pinpoint why Retold failed to become next hit RTS: Was it poor balance, no new pantheons/maps/campains, meh proplay entertainment, mythological setting, awful lobby search system or just the RTS playerbase being too old to change games. You could even claim that one reason AoM failed to attract newer playerbase was because old AoM players were stomping them.

I agree with everything you said. Retold has a fairly decent multiplayer scene. It sold pretty well and made them good money. I even think it exceeded what they had in mind by a slight bit. Even when the game has lowest amount of online players
Retold sold well on PS5 and sold well on Xbox. Lots of people on game pass are also paying it. It just fell short of becoming the next big RTS and the reason for that is that RTS in general is just a niche genre.

Everyone is wrong here, it seems like rocket science to most of you, probably is rocket science for the dev…

Just by reading these posts, I can tell no one understands what the issue is. This includes the dev, they’re a bunch of amateurs, it’s probably the first game most of these guys ever worked on.

Your game can have amazing graphics, run smoothly and balance but if it is not fun, not addictive it will fail.
The dev have no idea what a fun or addictive game is, they should have taken the safest route and make the game very similar to TT and made minor changes, it would have been an easy win.

They made a ton of money off us; we would have gotten something we deserved. The dev are so hardheaded and unfair, they refuse to abandon their approach and start switching everything back to TT.

Shame on the dev!

Shame on people tho support the dev!

Yea, how dare people not agree with your point of view, shame on them, bunch of stuborn people, oh wait.

We are not on an RTS era of games, its a niche, its not the main type of game that caters to most gamers, cant really expect a game to do similarly to a point in time where the genre was booming. It is sad to see a game you love not be as popular as you would want it to be or see it changed into something you might not prefer but lashing out on people that dont share your idea will not make you right.

TT was released almost 22 years ago. You won’t feel same heights from you addiction at that point. Ask any smoker, drunkard or drug addict.

I would even argue that 22 years is enough for you to not feel any “addiction” anymore, and at that point you are just doing it because of how beneficial, soothing and comfortable habits can be. Issues are not within Retold but the fact that you are 22 years older and have played the game 22 years.

On a sidenote, do you know why almost all succesful games have cosmetic stores, daily missions, steam point shop items and grindy gear systems? Because those make players stay with the game longer giving people different experiences and time for habits to form. Retold released without all of those so it wasn’t a hit even if it was the best game of 2024. Nothing will keep players uninstalling longer or make them recommend the game more than the skin they spent 30$ or 10 hours on. I don’t care about skins or microtransactions myself so I am still playing the game, but majority of gamers don’t think so.
