Which CPU is better for 4v4 late game?

I know that this kind of RTS game requires a CPU with strong single core performance, especially when late game with a lot of units. So which is the best, 9800x3d or 9950x or Core 9 285k? 9800x3d is overall the best for gaming, but 9950x and Core 9 285k provide better single core performance.

I personally play with a Intel I 7 14700kf and an RTX 4080 super. I have about 200 FPS at 40% performance with WQHD Quality. I think there will be a little difrence between those, so just take the one u personally like.

In my experience with 2 machines playing AoE IV:

1.- Radeon 9000, with 4 cores, 16 GB RAM: AoE IV runs well for 1vs1 in low quality. However, it does not run well for human teams 3vs3 or 4vs4. Against AI in 4vs4 it does run, but after 20 minutes game’s speed drops, and you’ll practically start playing in slow motion. I thought that was normal until I saw games where it wasn’t.

2.- Zen5, 12 core chip, 24 threads. 8GB GPU and 16 GB RAM. It runs well at medium quality with all options at MAXIMUM, to play 4vs4 for any number of hours.

According to the recommendations: You must have a minimum 4GB GPU and 16 GB RAM to play 4vs4 at medium quality.

The computer chip helps (Zen Gen 4,5,6 or Intel 9,10,12,13,14), but the main thing is the GPU and the RAM.

As I showed you in my first example, my core was a low quality Radeon (currently, at the time it was the trend), but the game ran. The detail will ALWAYS be the graphics card.

With what you say, that it is a 24 core in the main core, its very good, but in terms of if with that runs the game: THAT DOESN’T MATTER. The most important thing is the GPU and the RAM. If you don’t have both, it won’t run well.

It depends on your goal. If you’re just going to play games, AMD’s X3D family will offer better performance because of the 3D V-Cache. AMD is even set to launch new processors of this family in early 2025. However, if you’re going to do other activities like video editing and 3D rendering, the 9950x is better.

In any case, the processors mentioned will be more than enough to play today’s RTS games and any other type of game. Just remember that it’s important to combine them with a good GPU.

MONITOR

hello, I forgot to mention that with a good GPU the game can run well, but if the Monitorn is not adequate to work well with the GPU pc, your screen will start to fail and break down.

Remember that most current GPUs of “8 GB” or more need a screen with HDMI connector. Most of these screens are 720p or 1080p (Full HD), or biggers.

1 ms or 5 ms?.- I wanted to tell you to be VERY careful, since some stores sell 5ms screens as if they were 1ms. Also, the 1ms is not perfect: usually it refer to be “near 1ms with your GPU at overdrive mode”, actually, with some channel making testing of these monitors, it would be near 2.5 or 3.5 ms, but yes, is better than 5 ms, because you can run games ar 200 fps.

Technically, most Curved screens have 1ms. With flat screens it is more difficult, since only some models are 1 ms, and they are more expensive than a curved one, BUT, here’s the thing:

  • Curved screens are not good for drawing or reading (because the curve distort your vision so you can´t paint straight lines), only for action games and only if you are going to stay 2 or 3 meters near of the computer, I do not recommend them. You can only see them up close.

  • Flat screens allow you to draw without problems, read books or documents, and use applications like publisher, power point, etc. If you want to watch movies in the living room, with your family or away from home in bed with a controller, a flat screen is better.

I bought a 5ms flat screen, it’s good, it allows me to run games at 60 fps without problems, just to save 50 dollars (which I didn’t have at the time), but if you have the money, I highly recommend one a 1 ms.
