Which Egyptian major god is best for massing war elephants?

Is it Set with his cheaper migdol units and access to Thoth?

Is it Isis with her general eco benefits, population bonus and access to Thoth?

Is it Ra with his food eco benefits and generally stronger cavalry?

I suspect it’s Isis, but I’d like to hear from someone better at math and stats than I.

Ra is the best for migdol units in general. the 15% hp boost for elephants is huge. You just have to stay alive until you can mass them which isn’t easy

Isis or Set over Ra because you gain access to Thoth which gives you

Tusks of Apedemak: - Lowers Elephant pop cost by 1

and also Valley of the Kings - Migdol spawns 2 units for cost of 1 when empowered. Try it out sometimes. Mass elephant frontline with ranged back line is quite fun.

Don’t make elephants for Set. It’s a bad idea. Ra doesn’t have Thoth. Only Isis.

The god that has an easier time massing elephants is Ra. The food eco just keeps coming with him,
Now as to which god gets more value out of elephants, then its thoth set or isis due to the less pop cost.

Why no elephants for Set?

You can do elephant as set but it’s going to be more of an eco struggle than the others.

Even with his cheaper migdol units?

Isis is the best because she has the best economy for affording Elephants with her unique God tech Flood of the Nile trickling Food and Prosperity God Power boosting Gold income along with her bonus of +5 population with each Town Center you have and with Bast Classical Age up choice the Sacred Cats tech boosting Food income.

You can advance into the Heroic Age with Nephthys for Nebty tech for more health on Priests and Pharaoh to keep them alive longer to heal Elephants and with the tech Spirit of Maat which makes your Pharaoh and Priests which are cheaper to train also heal faster. You have Funeral Rites tech which gives you back some Gold when your military units dies to help sustain Gold economy for making more and more Elephants.

You can advance into Mythical Age with Thoth for the Book of Thoth tech to boost your economy and Valley of the Kings to make you get extra Elephants trained from Migdol Strongholds that are Empowered and then Tusks of Apedemak tech making your Elephants cheaper in resource and population cost as well as stronger in combat.

Bonus: Town Centers and Citadel Centers support +5 population.

God Power
Prosperity
Target anywhere to make all of your Villagers and Trade Caravans gather Gold faster.

Isis ensures the continued fertility of your lands, granting a steady trickle of Food.

Bast’s cats protect Granaries from vermin, improving all Food gather rates.

Nephthys increases the healing rate of Pharaohs and Priests, and lowers the cost of Priests.

Nephthys increases Priest and Pharaoh hitpoints, as well as their damage against myth units.

Nephthys compensates you with gold when your warriors fall in combat.

Thoth makes War Elephants stronger, cheaper, and reduces their population cost.

Thoth teaches secrets that cause Barracks and Migdol Strongholds to spawn additional units when empowered.

Thoth’s secrets allow your Laborers to gather Food, Wood, and Gold faster.

Isis > set, but dunno if thoth eco beats Ra eco with Rain and aoe empower, would be interesting to math it out.

That’s what I thought but thanks for breaking it down like this.

It will surpass. Ra’s elephants can only attack with timing during the Heroic Age. That’s the only use. It’s best if your opponent doesn’t know you’re planning to attack with elephants, meaning you should stack them in the migdol. Then it will work. Spamming one elephant at a time without Thoth and with 5 population won’t do any good.

Dont feel you need surprise attack with elephants, the unit itself is very good. And its use is late game, not heroic age. The AoE on attack is quite strong imo. At least thats how its been performing well at high level.

Sneaky elephants does sound fun and interesting thou. Do keep in mind the Ra bonus is +15% health, thoth is +10% damage, so 1 vs 1 Ra elephants beat thoth´s. Ofc iif you do a only elephant army,. the thoth pop reduction would take over, but all armies are mixed more times than not.

That’s why I said using Ra’s 15% bonus only works in the Heroic Age. In the Mythic Age, Ra’s elephants are completely inferior as a frontline unit, because the population cost you other units. And if you’re planning on mixing elephants with camels, it’s completely pointless. You can certainly replace siege towers or catapults with them, but it won’t do any good.
And one more thing. If you want to compare Ra to Valley of the Kings, Ra will lose 100% of the time.

They arent… they still have more HP.

Thats not correct long term, but i can see wheres the mistake. Valley is best early on. Late game when you have several midgolds you get far more value from Ra´s better eco than empowering a midgold. Specially since you can AoE empower many more midgolds with Ra.

This whole comparison boils down to what you are looking from elephants and what pov. Raw elephant value, or taking into account the much better eco to mass therm, personally the unit is good for all 3 gods and Even without Thoth Ra does make good use for them.

If you want to talk about the lategame, we’ll run into Thoth’s lower population cost, Isis’s higher population base than Ra’s, and as a result, a more diverse army, the ability to multidirectional attacks, raids, build Titans, and so on. Ra produces more food, while Isis produces more gold. It doesn’t change anything. And don’t forget about free elephants. That’s also about the economy. Not to mention that Ra has to spend population on boosting the economy through priests, while Isis has a strong economy for free. Anyway, we’ve already strayed from the topic. I don’t see the point in getting a full set of camel buffs and then playing mass elephants.

It is very close but Id say Isis, there are 2 reasons:

  1. Reduced resource Cost and population cost don’t have amazing synergy together

Mainly because there is very small time window between reduced cost and population cost mattering. Once you hit max pop, you start floating resources anyway and strength matters more (winning a fight saves resources anyway).

  1. Isis get population capcity for free

Isis gets extra pop for free, while Set has to spam Citadel godpower. This lets Isis go Petsuchos or stronger priests to counter myth units (one main counter to elephants).

Ra

Ra isn’t terrible either. +15% sounds great but it really is only +10% total hitpoints due to upgrades. Area empowering several migdols and getting loads of food are pretty good. Main problem is that Ras elephants cost lot of pop and they lose to 3-pop cav, whereas Isis elephants trade well into 3 pop cav. Best part about Ra is that since you don’t need Thoth, you can also make strong camels or infantry alongside them: Axemen + Elephants or Camels + Elephants are both decent compositions for Ra but not for Set or Isis.

How? Upgrades work off baseline, they dont stack from the previous one, so it should still be + 15%
