Which new civ in the upcoming DLC in August 2021 are you MOST excited for?

They will be coming up against mounted Rittenbruder & Teutonic Knights infantry UU. In the campaign missions…

Although I believe we have enough civilizations in game, I’m always happy with new ones.

I guess more civilizations are fine, the only step back I see with more civilizations is for newcomers to the game
If the game is really difficult to understand and play with more than 30 civilizations, now it will be more difficult
Developers need to create a new way to welcome new players
The Art of War and William Wallace’s campaign are not enough to fully understand the spectrum of possibilities that the game has
BTW, I love the new UUs; new skins are always welcome

Poles. Was nice to see them finally get added. 0 Excitement about Bohemians, feels like they could’ve been more creative in picking the second civ.

I mostly agree with You, but the more civilization we got, the more others civilization being less unique and this is my only problem here.
I like new UU too, but I think Polish Obuch is a little odd addition. They could at least made them looking as Polish knights, but I’m not complaing, just my thoughts :slightly_smiling_face:.

When everyone look at those:

No one talking about this one:

And he looks super duper cool. Although Teutonic Knights were more famous for killing christians than pagans, I always loved they armor.

what is this lovely man’s name

I don’t know his name, but seeing his hero “glowing effect”, I think this is Grand Master of the Teutonic Order.

seems it is either

Michael Küchmeister von Sternberg (1414 to 1422)
or
Paul von Rusdorf (1422 to 1441)

And in the Poles campaign we will have Jan fighting for Teutonic Order and Grandmaster Ulrich von Jungingen at Grunwald

Both were Kingdoms, as @DarthPyro4335 rightly pointed out. But at various stages of European history, Poland and Bohemia were both relegated into “duchies” as they were gradually taken over and ruled by stronger, superior monarchs of larger nations.

That is exactly why the Bohemians interest me so much. We have not had a very good gunpowder civ since the addition of the Portuguese (I do not count Burgundians as they are really a cavalry civ that just so happens to have a minor bonus to gunpowder units)

If you are not excited for the new civs, then do not vote in my poll. It is that simple.

Whichever way they are, the devs will adjust them accordingly. I have a hunch that they will be OP in the beginning, much like how the Kipchak of the Cumans and the Burgundians with the Flemish Militia/Flemish Revolution were before they were tweaked in nerfing.

Nice meme. First time I saw such a meme of Captain Kirk selecting BOTH switches.

Yeah…I am kinda “both” myself. But I am leaning slightly towards Bohemians because of the emphasis on gunpowder.

I’m still allowed to express my opinion, am I not? Granted, my response was a bit on the aggressive side, but I hope we’re done with Europe for the next few DLCs. And no “this European civ fits in this expansion, let’s let it take up a slot of an exotic civ” like in some of the previous expansions.

To be honest, among those two, I’m looking mostly forward to Bohemians. They seem me so far more interesting than Poles.

I think he meant only about Bohemians and not about Pole
Lapse of judgement maybe

What happened to managing impulsivity? World would be bad if people couldn’t… oh wait USA. Of course you can choose to or not but that doesn’t really make it right all the time or warranted.

I think the civs are nice but boring UUs it looks like to me. I am more excited and hopeful for possible new game techs/unit trees/maps/game mechanics.

Any news about the DLC DotD?

Except that it contains 16 DLCs which will likely follow the same pattern as Lords of the West no.

They’ve announced that they’re going to announce more stuff about it soon.

Duchy of Bohemia - Wikipedia

List of Polish monarchs - Wikipedia

To correct myself: Bohemia was a “Grant Duchy” at first, and later became a kingdom. Not the other way around, as I said before. Same goes for Poland: began as a Duchy and only later morphed into a true “kingdom”. But it does prove my point that Poland and Bohemia were duchies…or grand duchies if you will. Probably why the devs are going with the title of “Dawn of the Dukes”

(1) It sounds cool (the "d"s of Duke and Dawn match)
(2) It plays off of the previous DLC which had a focus on the Grand Dukes of Burgundy
(3) The word “king” has already been used in Age of Kings which was the first AoE2 package. So it might feel redundant to say something like “Dawn of the Kings”
(4) Like I mentioned above, Poland and Bohemia both had “Grand Dukes” as leaders.

It is true that sometimes I make mistakes over historical details…I am just an amateur historian after all. And I do correct myself/acknowledge my mistake when I find I was incorrect. Like when I said that “Poland and Bohemia were kingdoms who became duchies later” turns out it was the other way around.

My “lapse in judgement” in this case come from how while I was studying the Thirty Years’ War (17th century, long past the end of the medieval ages), Bohemia was referred to oftentimes as a “Duchy” that the Hapsburg Holy Roman Emperors ruled over. But I already knew that Bohemia WAS a kingdom before the Thirty Years’ War even took place, which is probably where I made the mistake.

Express your opinion however you like. But demanding a “none” option to be added to a poll when clearly, the poll is already made and published, is rude.
