Which timeframe would you like aoe2 to focus next?

I did this since I only see geographical pools. Dates are not optimal but the divide is pretty much subjective so I choose to distribute them equally.

  • Late antiquity (300 to 625 circa)
  • Dark ages (625 to 950 circa)
  • Middle ages proper (950 to 1275 circa)
  • Late middle ages (1275 to 1600 circa)
  • Extend the timeline!
  • Restrict the timeline (boring)

If we go by numbers late antiquity and dark ages are by far the less represented eras but obviously one can still want more middle and late medieval content.

I was going to link my post about an idea for an Early Middle Ages expansion, but you’ve already seen it and commented on it, so I don’t think that’s necessary. Still, other people might be interested, so here it is.

Yeah I remember that, some pretty big civ additions!

If we could have only one civilization outside the timeframe of AoE2, I would have two candidates: the Americans, because I am American and AoE2 is far superior to AoE3, so being able to play my home country in the superior title would be something special, and the Comanche, because they were basically the Mongols of North America, specializing in horse archery and even using the Parthian shot just like the Mongols. They would be a very natural fit, and would probably play out similarly to the Mongols and Magyars in terms of style.

Well of course if you decide to add Americans the game would need a radical rethinking, basically incorporating aoe3. You can vote “extend the timeline” for that even if I imagined something more gradual like someone wanting to add Dutch or some north American faction, hence crossing the 1600 line and so on. Americans are a far longer shot I must say.
