Why are most 4v4s so unpleasant?

1000- 1200 ELO 4v4s are so unpleasant:

  • Players dont make enough villagers, players with 2K + matches make 70 vills only, saw this consistently
  • Its quick pocket or skip
  • Cant hold under presssure and resign
  • Dont boom and resign as soon as push fails
  • I am fignting 1v2 or 1v3 and other team members dont fight, last match the persian players kept his 20 war elephants under my TC while i had to fight archers and obuchs with my camels

Some players are great and those matches are very satisfying but most matches are terrible.

Why is the weather bad sometimes? Why is the sky blue?

Yeah it feels too evident to write a sarcastic comment but i definitely feel that there is a skill gap which can be easily overcome. Do people who have played over 2K matches ever ask why they are making the same mistakes over and over again?

I think this is okay depends on strategy.

understandable, too many noobs, can’t trust each other.

Depends on skill, sometimes the opponents got much higher 1v1 elo and there is no point to keep playing.
I also know some people just don’t care about winning. We can do nothing to them.

Even in 3v3, players will click as fast as possible to secure a pocket position, i don’t mind pocket or flank so i get flank 95% of the time. …no exaggeration xD. It is getting boring tbh. I wish the teams are evenly far away from opponent like aoe3, or like lombardia, or make the position not dependent on colour so there is no need to rush pocket pick

I am not talking of games that end early. I have observed that in a lot of post imp games players who have played 2K + games still dont make more than 100 vills.

Number of games played does not relate much to skills esp. at lower elos
I think people just dont like getting attacked tbh so they pick pockets.

Getting a player group definitely helps

The outcome of a 1v1 is pretty easy: It is your skill vs their skill. Best player wins. Elo will be pretty accurate pretty quickly. For 4v4, it is much more harder: The outcome depends on the skill of 8 players and how they work together. Also every match can have other players. Sometimes you get carried and end up to high. Other time you had to carry, but fails. Also the whole solo queueing for team games vs premades is here a thing. Getting balanced games given the Elo system for team games is just hard.

I also think many less skilled players are playing team games. That explains why they dont really have control over the basics, while a player at the same rating for 1v1s do have much better control about the basics. Number of games doesnt really matter if someone doesnt really try to improve in the game.

It stinks sometimes. I just wish I the ELO was more accurate and I could play with people of my level.

Getting stomped doesn’t help me get better

A better rating system will help a lot. Microsoft already owns TrueSkill and TrueSkill2. They should experiment with these rating systems. They are improvements over the basic Elo system that was build for 1v1 only.
