Title.
Why aren’t they? They wield swords.
I ask myself that eveey time i play spain.
I think “archaic infantry” in the original refers to units that cannot (normally) upgrade to guard/imperial.
To this day I though it just meant the medeival esque units like heavy melee infantry and archers.
Los rodeleros arcaicos le vendrian bien a la pésima card española “Reconquista”.
As other saids, originally archaic units meant units that couldnt be upgraded to guard and imperial.
Xbows could only be upgraded with the Portuguese church card, Pikemen with Spanish and British Longbows with a card.
Haldberdier, (who historically were replaced by pikeman and not the other way around) Doppelsoldners and Rodeleros were never described as such.
In game effects, right now Archaic Infantry tag is used only with the Spanish team card that reduces the training time for pike-like and archer-like units and the Reconquista card. Yeah, rodeleros should be affected by Reconquista.
Well damn, that kinda makes Azaps even stronger compared to pikes for just having the vet/imp upgrades without a politician/card gatekeep.
All asian and american native pikes can be upgraded withour politicians.
