Why doesn't anyone play empire wars?

When Empire Wars came out it was very poorly received and criticized because nobody had asked for a game mode like this, but due to its nature age of empires 3 is a relatively slow game, there are people who really enjoy fast games even if it is not very fast. popular an example that has always been in all the age of empires, I even remember that there were players who only exclusively played deathmatch.

Wars of the Empire is something similar, it’s very fast but respecting the style of supremacy, Many people have not even tried to play Wars of the Empire

Currently there are only 192 players who have ranked without losing their position due to inactivity in 1v1 empire wars

It gets worse in team games where there are only 39.

I’ve only played 28 games, I usually find myself almost always with the same players. “Atuatucocoa” “Tromerai” “Chuponcito” the rest of the people who have touched me are largely rivals who seem to be just starting to play an RTS, this is because there are so few players who easily match up with the only ones they are looking for game regardless of the difference in rating

I would like to call on the players in the community to give it the opportunity to try this game mode in ranked, it is not that different from what you think, obviously the balance is not made for this mode but it is not that it is a balance too bad, it is very trained

The early is modified for each civilization, each civ has its respective resource drawers, wagon, number of initial villagers, shipments arrive faster and each shipment delivers a wagon.

As tips for people who would like to start trying this game mode are the following

  • Initially prioritize obtaining experience at the beginning to be able to send shipments as quickly as possible

  • Go old as soon as possible since you start with the necessary resources to go old, for which you should put the correct number of villagers “not all” to collect the drawers since it would not be the most efficient, start from the beginning with a good economy making market, trading post, boom buildings and ready to create troops when you pass to age 2, well it depends a lot on the strategies they decide to do, usually the games are Rush or FI

  • Use the wagons intelligently, usually in the middle game it is very important to place border buildings in the most important natural resource points, especially in the 5000 gold mines to take control

  • Special deck for this game mode, where the military and building aspects are highly prioritized, also give a special emphasis to the siege, for example, improvements in mortars or specific siege units, long-term farm economic improvements are not so necessary Only the basics are enough, I usually only use 2, one of gold and the other of food, also even the cards that are a bit useless in other game modes such as explorer improvements, stronger urban centers, cheaper buildings, strong , exclusive improvements to the church, animals, warships, cards that only unlock abilities that are rare, even troll for treaty, in empire wars it can be useful.

Because the game’s normal modes are already complex and hard to master.

Death Match- Fast Fast
Supremacy- Tempo and build Order
Treaty-Economic growth and combat

Other modes like

King of the Hill
Empire wars(Supremacy)
Empire wars(Treaty)
Tycoon

have plenty of Extra in them that players dont really need but its really fun to play around with them if you have a friend and not so much normal people.

Because it is bad. Not fun.

It is bland copy of aoe2 empires wars…and no one play EW in aoe2 either…

AOE3 already had so many designs compared to AOE2 to make the first age dynamic and interesting. It does not need to be skipped for “faster paced games” like in AOE2.

I play it with friends a lot. But not in any competitive scenario. The problem is the free wagons - they fundamentally alter the balance you get on supremacy.

Also the 500W start for Ottos is completely broken, they can TC boom from age 1 lol.

I’d say because 1 of the best parts of the game is slowly building up a base and an army something which you can do in 1v1 and team and treaty and if you want to jump right into fighting then deathmatch already exists.

Aoe3 base mode is already fast paced, why does Empire Wars even exist? Make sense in aoe2 where you age 2 in min 10, and in aoe2, during that time you do the same thing over and over for all civs, always, but not in aoe3 where 40 azaps are raiding me min 7.

What do you want 40 azaps raiding you min 3 and half? Its already hard as it is.

its a fun mode and actually if you have followed the game mode, right now there are so much players ranked as never before. And also some known players have played it on stream or being ranked in the ladder of EW. From my pov its a fun mode where you can try out weird stuff and if you shouldnt take it serious you can have a good time.

But as usually its a problem that the different game modes dont have their own balance, its already hard to balance the game in the most used game mode such as Supremacy and Treaty and not to forget aoe3 isnt the biggest game. As well overall its also a problem that probably the majority of the players dont play Multiplayer. So i guess if you get like 200-300 People on the ladder at some point everyone could be happy with that.

The never-ending free wagons put me off, as they respond as idle villagers when I’m using the hotkey. At some point, I just have to delete them as soon as I get them. Very annoying.

In AoE II I love using EW. Going back to RM after having played EW is really tough for me. It’s so slooow, up to the slooow-moving scout in dark age…
