i know how to do it, thanks
did you never get upset when enemy vills ran away (enemy was using pull trick) to town center and you didnt kill as many villagers than you expected?
I did, i discovered like 5 years after it was pull trick.
So i debanked the theory (theory that was told on this post) that people dont get upset about what they dont know.
formation in aoe3 is crucial for me. 70% less damage from cannons on one formation, and 50% less damage on other formation.
The formation that is really bad is the square formation (if this is the name in English) that doesnt put the cannon in middle of all the army as i wish

The only problem with this thread, is that it’s only people that don’t know how to play the game that want that kind of things to be removed. And that’s why if feels frustrating to read it. It’s the same for the others topics for walls etc…
Imagine a world where people playing tennis on Sunday put pressure on official tennis ligue to remove something they don’t like to tournaments they will never play.
I dare you to find anyone that crossed pr 35 on legacy that agree with you…
That kind of topics could be legit 1 month after release in 2005 why not. There’s no way they change that now, it’s part of the game.
And as Amphiprion said, microing treasure the way animals will not agro you is an “exploit” too. And none wants it to be removed
That remind me Call of Duty, 10 years ago or more, when Black Ops I went out. They removed QuickScope because few players were complaining it was exploit, and yes it was. Scop weren’t supposed to be so fast and effectiv at short distance. So… they patched it and nobody could do it on that game. Well, it was so bad because that kind of exploit was and is still today one of the best way to play sniper in a FPS. They literally ruined it for like 6 months because few beginners were complaining on official forum. To finally put it back because it was so logic it’s not a bad exploit of the game but something you need to master.
Well, your pulltrick is their quickscope.
I agree Formations are useful, AOE2 has formations and that’s how you beat Mangonels using archers through a proper usage of formation But you don’t get any other advantage out of them. If knights catch you, you’re mostly dead and you can’t try to out run with pull trick despite AOE2 having formation
I reached pr 42 in Legacy through pure quicksearch facing anything and I understand part of how important it is to have proper balance in competitive games.
Now is when the community had evolved. Back then we didn’t have such support from devs nor people knowing about pull trick or walling trick
In other games where PVE exist. kiting monsters down has always been there. Thus being able to micro treasure monsters is not really an exploit or would you want monsters to chase you throughout the entire map? Now if we’re talking about they not moving due to bug, This definitely needs fixing
We can really take comparison for other games but maintaining it within RTS gnere is lot better. At higher level those bugs/exploits we know call mechanics because before there weren’t people truly discovering these to be patched are the real difference in a high level game. They do make a difference.
Having an object/unit react in a way they are not supposed to is considered a bug in this case having units outrun danger due to using an exploit is definitely a bug. It was an exploit to wake your hero through formation. Also we can say it is an exploit to micro monster treasure, But kiting monsters is a PVE aspect and if we take a close gnere we can take MOBAs which were taken out of RTS games and you kite monsters there too.
Formations don’t have to be necessarily removed, instead looked into and reworked as all AOE games have formations and only AOE3 has it as buggy.
movement speed is really important in RTS we can see it at how ashigarus 4.5 can do magic with such speed as not all infantry have this speed.
I guess you didn’t actually check, because it’s basically all of them! That is in fact a great argument for defending pull trick.
Go play AOE1 and AOE2 which also have formations.
AoE1 does not have formations at all, units just move however they want.
In AoE2 it is true that pull trick is not as exploitable, because units are kinda “less likely” to group into formations in the first place, unlike in other Age games.
However, in all of AoE3, AoM, and AoEO, pull trick works exactly the same.

Formation in aoe3 are buggy? Never noticed
It is shown on the UI.
If you were to remove the speedup mechanic micro will feel slow and sluggish, and I don’t want that. When I’m kiting with bow pike I have to have the ability to pull the pike in front of bow and then back again multiple times in a row. If I can’t do that quickly then I don’t even want to play.

Some ppl keep calling it an exploit. Imo an exploit is something that wasn’t intended in the game, is easy to do but provides you a huge game winning advantage…good example cav box
Pull trick…jury is out on whether it was intended (however unit formation is 100% part of the game)…takes a lot of skill to pull off…and does not give u a guaranteed game winning advantage.
(Just to add that pull trick are unintentionally done by most players due to formation mechanics in the game. The pull trick I’m talking about is using this mechanic at the right time with the right units…which takes a lot of skilll).
So pull trick does not qualify for me as an exploit…But I’m just humoured by posters that bring up

The fact that every unit has a max speed value that can be found in the game script clearly proves that units temporarily speeding up and being pulled is intended. I would go even further and say every player does it every game it literally happens if u have 10 musk go around a tree and one decides to go around the other side. He will be pulled towards the other 9 and speed up for a short moment.
its nos shown on IU the speed when pull trick is activated, not even when units are snared. The only speed that increases is the one that unts use when go to atack
