I will write here later. Because it’s actually too much stuff.
People rightfully say it could/should actually be 2 DLCs. It’s so much stuff coming at once.
And ofc there is stuff I see critical. But I think it will be adjusted so it fits in the game.
It’s impossible to fit any persons ideals with such a big DLC. Everybody will have stuff they don’t want to see.
But pretty sure everybody also will see a lot of stuff they want.
And then it’s ofc the major question: Are you one that is happy getting something you want or complain about something you didn’t? And preemptively before it’s even released?
Because I see a lot of this very shallow hate / turndown all over the place here. Ofc some have very distinguished and articulated points they see critical. Fair. But a lot is just shallow hate without ANY explanation. Which devs btw can just ignore. These people you can’t make it right anyways. They knew they will be dissapointe when they heared there will be a dlc.
So I for my part are hyped for quite a lot of stuff that is coming in the DLC. And I will get into that later in detail here. But because of the sheer amount that is coming I need to think about what and how to set it up so I don’t confuse myself whilst writing.
I see so much potential in the new Cavalry and Rocket Carts. The Civs look very well thought through (with one exception that one “cavalry” civ doesn’t get the last Armor Upgrade).
Some of them seem to me a bit weak, as none of the civ has actually a really strong early eco bonus - but ofc I could be wrong with this impression. I usually want new civs to be intentionally a bit overtuned at the beginning for various reasons and a bit too strong eco bonus that can be tuned down later is a good way to achieve that without changing the identity of the civ.
For me the biggest aspect is that - despite the civs have very distinct new flavour - they actually feel fitting in the greater aspect. You don’t need to learn to play the game different. You don’t need to learn new buildorders.
I think this DLC has the chance to become the best in DE
It’s clear the devs are trying to push the game ever more into “Ancient” times instead of Medieval times, but I kinda don’t care about that, it’s always been anachronistic. Goths vs janissaries and stuff…
Also, I believe they chose these civs just because of the campaigns, and they might be good, who knows, they’re really hyping them up. As a campaign player, I “should” feel interested in this content, but nope…
But the worst part is they’ve lied again. They said it wouldn’t be a Chinese split. They showed images with a Tangut castle and a Tangut unique unit, the Poxi (camel catapult). Now we see there’s a Chinese split and there’s no Tanguts, just the Three Kingdoms and other civs tacked on.
I think the DLC is terrific for all those like myself, you and many others who like new content, the civ bonuses, units and gameplay. But there seems to be a decent number of players who enjoy the game for its historical accuracy and those are the people who seem disappointed. As I always do, I’d say its an RTS game not a history teaching tool but maybe if the historical representation and faction splitting was done the right way, the upcoming DLC could have become a lot more popular amongst the Chinese community.
wait what? you like the civ designs but still disappointed, why?
I think I understand you. I think the new campaigns can be fun. But the way this is integrated into the game is breaking consistency.
Where is the Chinese campaign they have been waiting for 25 years? Where is the feeling of discovery of a new and exciting region and its medieval cultures? The feeling of deepening is vanishing.
Yeah the choices are bad, China history is incredebly rich and I would have even apreciated a Chinese campaign without a reworked Chinese and new civs.
Although the problems these civs have design wise are also annoying, they were very close to do something interesting yet they fumbled the UUs and pyt way too much strong stuff in each civ
Weirdly enough the Three Kingdom civs have at first glance equal power level with each other and the Khitanguts are also just as strong as the Jurchen. Its just happens to be that the Jurchen and Khitan are balanced and the other ones are ridiculously OP
Don’t worry guys, they’ll redeem themselves by making a second Chinese DLC featuring 5 new civs!!! These will be the Uyghurs (with Tibetan unique units) and the Bai (a naval superpower with camel units), and also the Qin, the Qi and the Wei (not to be confused with the Wei)
Wow, those “Han-Zhao” guys sound pretty cool. Maybe we could give them a historically accurate unique unit with a cool name like “Black Spear Dragon” or something like that. Nah… Let’s give them a Landsknecht.
And for a campaign set in that time period, what better than one featuring… Kongming! He’s popular, right? You like him, right guys?
If they gave campaign content to Khitans and Jurchens…you know, the two civs in the DLC that actually fit in the time period, that would go a long way towards making this easier to swallow…
I see nothing wrong with that… It’s a very historically accurate medieval ship that belongs to an obscure manual about the Chola navy (that definetely existed)
I don’t know what’s that about a Wikipedia hoax… The devs just dug too deep and used something too specific!
i myself actually do like it. i dont really care that 3 kingdoms dont fit or whatever. The hero units are interesting. i actually am more focused on the gameplay. I do feel these 5 new civs feel unorthodox. ie. calv civ missing bloodlines but having regen tech in imp.
i think its also pretty good price for 5 civs and 3 campaigns for 19cad. i wasnt expecting that many campaigns as campaigns are the hardest things to make and they cant give it an insane price.
Again I completely understand the frustrations of those who play the game purely for the historical representation and campaigns. The history fans should write a separate forum requesting devs to hire one or more of you under NDA before DLC developments to do a thorough research and choose the right names for the civ designs they come up with.
